Kiyoshi has an outstanding opportunity
to re-establish her tainted reputation in
the group three, sixteen-runner, £60000
Sceptre Stakes over seven furlongs of
good Doncaster turf today; just about
every box is ticked for this superbly-bred
Charles Hills-trained Dubawi filly. Cast
your minds back fifteen months.
An explosive burst of speed sealed the
group three Albany Stakes over six furlongs
at Royal Ascot after which Kiyoshi was tar-
geted for the English 1000 Guineas; her
time-handicap mark was huge, there were
Six races later Kiyoshi hasn t won since.
Three-year-old fillies can be a night-
mare, especially for punters, just about
the worst age group for serious backing
but patience can often be the key; hopefully
Kiyoshi can replicate recent spirited dis-
plays on the Faringdon gallops and land
a good-priced nap. A tremendous eight-
race programme should provide wonderful
value on Turf Moor where, hopefully, we ll
have a real beaut for the St Leger on Sat-
Running in tandem will good Epsom
and good to firm Chepstow, a tricky,
undulating course which might just suit
Persian Bolt ideally in the six-runner Maid-
en 3-y-o Fillies Stakes over six furlongs.
Obvious favourite will be William Hag-
gas-trained Water Queen but a vital 3lbs
apprentice allowance of in-form Amy Scott
might just tilt the balance in favour of Eve
Johnson Houghton s charge.
Of course Epsom also puts a high pre-
mium on jockeyship but Richard Fahey
has no qualms about booking his talented
apprentice for Thorkhill Star in the Maiden
2-y-o Stakes over seven furlongs.
This Star really shone when finishing
strongly into second behind Fingal s Cave
ten days ago; definitely ready to go one
better, don t oppose.

Here are the declared run-
ners, riders and weights for the
ARC Day 33 programme.
A review of the pick of the rest of yesterday s
action from Doncaster, where the first six win-
ners all came from stall two.
Lincoln completed a remarkable six-timer for
horses drawn in stall two on the opening day of
the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival.
The run started with Salateen in the opening
contest and ended with Mick Channon s Lincoln
under Graham Lee in the penultimate contest on
the card---the Romero Insurance Brokers Ltd
"I should think he deserved another win," said
"It all went perfectly to plan during the race
and he appreciated the ground."
The closing Magical Moments On Canvas
Handicap was won by Expose (25/1, drawn four)
on just his second start for Shaun Harris and
Clon Brulee held off the late surge of Red
Galileo to claim victory in the Park Hill Hospital
Conditions Stakes for trainer Saeed bin Suroor
and jockey Ryan Moore.
Clon Brulee s fellow Godolphin challenger Cap
O Rushes cut out much of the running, but Moore
drew alongside aboard the 6/5 favourite shortly
after passing the two-furlong marker.
He quickly began to assert and although Red
Galileo was really finding his stride in the closing
stages, the market leader had enough in reserve
to prevail by a neck.
Moore said: "He s a very likeable horse. He s
had three quite quick races and he s run well
every start. He quickened up well and probably
just idled in front."
Salateen looked a juvenile on the up when
making every yard of the running in the 1stse-
curitysolutions.co.uk Nursery Handicap.
Kevin Ryan s Dutch Art colt had run well in
the Acomb Stakes at York three weeks ago and
was sent off the 9/4 favourite back down in class.
Jamie Spencer s mount broke smartly and led
just two rivals down the centre of the track as
the rest stuck to the rail.
From halfway it was obvious he was in a dif-
ferent league to the others and Spencer did not
have to work hard leading him to a length and
three-quarters win over Goring.
"I was going to run him in a Listed race later
in the week, but I just thought the ground might
be a bit better today," said Ryan.
"We went for the easier option on some nicer
ground and it paid off.
"There s so much more to come, Jamie said
the first day he sat on him he was a lovely horse.
"It s all about next year and whether he has
one more run or not I m not sure, but it will be
back up in class if he does.
"He s a stakes horse."
Angelic Lord (4/6 favourite) was rewarded for
two good runs in higher company when running
out an impressive winner of the Irish Stallion
Farms EBF Conditions Stakes.
Tom Dascombe s youngster was not beaten far
by The Wow Signal at Royal Ascot or Ivawood
in the July Stakes at Newmarket, but still only
had a Ripon maiden win to his name.
He was the first of the four runners off the
bridle and at one point they were all in a line,
yet despite drifting Richard Kingscote got him
organised to pull a length and three-quarters
clear of Markaz.
Dascombe said: "The yard have been quiet,
that s no secret, so it s nice to have a winner.
"There s nothing wrong with them, we just
had a fast start to the season and a lot of the
horses are now badly handicapped.
"We need to have a chat about whether he s
going to the sales or not because I think there ll
be plenty more to come from him.
"He s got plenty of options for the end of the
year, but he just has a tendency to hang a bit.
It s already cost him a place in a Group race."
