6. What has been the most exciting milestone for K2K?
The most exciting milestone for K2K would have to be our first presentation.
It's similar to the diamond mining process. A diamond starts deep in the mines
and is picked, goes through a heating and burning process by which some make it,
some get cut. We had our vision of K2K in deep the diamond mines but to actually
see our product from inception to crossing the stage where we showed the world
our diamond, we were so emotional and thankful to God for that experience.
7. Do you have a staff/team? What do you look for in a team member?
Yes, however, not as many as you may think. We have a lean staff comprised of
family and close friends. We look for people who are honest, hard working, pleas-
ant, positive, and results-oriented.
8. How do you guys stay true to your vision?
We recognise that the landscape of Carnival has changed into more a bikini,
beads and feathers culture. However, we knew that even before the conception of
the Company. The hardest part of being who we are is being fearless enough to
stay outside of what has become the norm. With the brand, we try to make many
"first steps" in Carnival -- Marrying fashion with Mas is an unique platform, like-
wise adding the element of the Audible book is also quite new to the landscape as
we have attempted to take storytelling not only not only to the streets of POS for
Carnival but also translates to our 365 day concept. In light of all of this, much of
our support mechanism hinges on our family and very close friends who give us
the strength to move forward year on year despite our challenges.
9. Who are some of your muses and inspirations?
In terms of Carnival, we draw our inspiration from Trinidad's Carnival masters of
yesteryear e.g., Peter Minshall, Wayne Berkely, Geraldo Vieria etc. - We were
blessed to work with the late Geraldo Vieira who supported the brand from incep-
tion and to see the passion and love he held for art of Carnival was truly motivat-
ing. We believe that the rich contributions of these great men, who took costum-
ing beyond the scope of Carnival e.g., the Olympics, truly changed the landscape of
Carnival. In terms of fashion we look internationally to understand the latest
trends, the marksmanship of clothing/fashion execution. We think that the land-
scape of Carnival, the Arts, Fashion are all changing and we hope to be part of that
10. Why should people choose K2K for their next mas experience?
One of the most unique attributes about the brand is our 365-day concept.
That is at K2K we produce garments that can be utilised after Carnival. The
brand is multi-faceted and we like to think that both of us are complex, multi-
faceted, versatile individuals. As we hit the road for 2015 we say - let the streets
of Port-of-Spain become your Runway. Please look out for K2K on the road with
its portrayal of Millennia III -- The Long Walk from Home. We think that it will be
a beautiful, colourful portrayal. We think K2K is definitely an unique offering. We
plan on continuing to stretch the envelop in terms of costuming and if you
remotely liked what we presented in 2014, we humbly think that 2015 will defi-
nitely be just as refreshing.
