party members to reconsider but has remained firm.

PNM sources said even though McIntosh, a retired
principal, was not contesting, she may be appointed to
head an education-sector body, or as an ambassador,
if the party is returned to office. Another PNM source
claimed several incumbents may be given certain
appointments in "the next PNM government."
A group of Moruga/Tableland constituents on Monday
called on Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley to give
former MP Peter Taylor a chance to contest the seat
in the 2015 general election although he was last week
rejected by the screening committee.
Taylor and two other candidates were rejected and
Rowley told the screening committee to go back to the
constituency and come back with fresh candidates. But
Roysil Ramdalip Bridgelal, a PNM supporter for over
40 years, said they wanted to know why and said they
intended to petition Rowley to reconsider the decision.
The Opposition People s National Movement (PNM)
will resume screening election nominees on October
29, says chairman Franklin Khan.
He said the decision was taken to allow members to
focus on the party s forthcoming annual convention,
which would be spread over two events.
The first is the PNM delegates conference at the Hyatt
Regency, Port-of-Spain, on October 26. This will discuss
and approve the party s 2030 plan for the various sectors
of government, such as national security, health, infra-
structure and other issues.
The convention, which 800 delegates will attend, will
also approve the PNM s self-government policy for
The second leg of the convention will be a membership
gathering on November 16 at the Queen s Park Savannah,
Port-of-Spain, which Khan said would be huge.
When screening resumes, Khan said, the focus would
be on nominees for a few seats which the party recently
sought nominees for Chaguanas East, Caroni Central,
Moruga/Tableland, San Juan/Barataria but in which the
screening "wasn t pleased" with the selections.
