SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

Under the general supervision of the President of NIDCO, the incumbent is generally responsible for maintaining a good public image of NIDCO and the SHHE by
conceptualizing pro-active strategies and tactics to manage public opinion and expectations; to keep the public fully informed about developments on the project;
and to facilitate mutually rewarding relationships between NIDCO and key project stakeholders, including the community and the media.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develops, implements, and oversees external communication plans, media strategies, public information and public relations campaigns/programmes to
Implements communications strategies using creative and cost-efficient approaches;
Writes, edits and oversees the production of various communications products ensuring accuracy, quality and efficient workflo w (copy writing/editing)
Plans, organises and implements logistics of press events and media relations that support communication initiatives; coordinates events with public and private
sector agencies, businesses and community groups;
Develops and distributes media releases, media advisories, news releases, newsletters, informational brochures, and other materials to advise the public of
project progress, new developments and special events;
Manage emerging issues (which requires keeping an ear to the ground to determine changing public opinion and actions and preparing responses to minimize
adverse public reaction)
Oversees the development and ongoing maintenance of project website(s);

Guiding and managing day-to-day communications requests (including following up on communication requests from the Communication Working Groups);
Produce monthly status reports regarding activities undertaken and their results, emerging issues and recommended actions;
Supports the activities of the Community Outreach Department, through public outreach and community educational programmes;
Collaborates with all Departments in the development of public information programme;
Reviews and conducts research within NIDCO, the construction and industries related to the Highway project and recommend new ways to improve or better
coordinate communication efforts;
Explores new and effective tools, mediums and technologies that strengthen communications and engagement with audiences, and offer value for effort;
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
Planning, developing and coordinating comprehensive public relations, communications and media relations programmes in public sector and/or major private
Expert knowledge of crisis communication issues and reputation management
Social media marketing
Working knowledge of preparing and laying out presentations, graphics, newsletters and other public information
Cutting-edge techniques and trends in mass and targeted communication, public relations, and marketing
Principles and practices in establishing and maintaining good relations with government agencies, news media and the public
Programme management, including methods used to evaluate programme effectiveness.
Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to work in a high-paced environment
Ability to develop and manage comprehensive communication action plans and budgets
Ability to identify and assess issues and risks and recommend measures to mitigate them
Strong analytic skills, with the ability to convey complex information in an engaging, simplified manner with clarity and precision
Proven writing and editing skills and a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
Proficient in the use of MS Office and working knowledge of graphic design software.
Knowledge of website development will be an asset.
Ability to liaise with media, Government officials, Governmental agencies and Regulatory Agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
A First Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communications, Marketing or in a related discipline
Four years progressive experience in a similar position
Experience in a public sector agency will be an advantage.
