Tiggy Wiggy, top-rated two-year-old last season,
is 15lbs superior to twelve rivals in the group three
seven furlongs of
first-up for this
which was six
from eight in
2014 and second
in the other two including a neck defeat in the
Queen Mary during Royal Ascot.
When Richard Hannon s charge won the extremely
valuable Sales race over five furlongs of this picturesque
Berkshire course Tiggy Wiggy achieved an incredible
time-handicap mark; a brilliant juvenile sprinter
unlikely to be a classic proposition was the general
opinion, not mine!
Next two races yielded facile successes in the group
two Lowther at York and then Tiggy blitzed grade
one opposition by landing the Newmarket Cheveley
Both were over six furlongs, no problem and so
this represents a fascinating seasonal debut, full of
intrigue and I ll bet champion jockey Richard Hughes
can t wait to show just what Tiggy Wiggy can do.
Totally unopposable with so much in hand; do you
really believe "the racing family Hannon" would
waste time pursuing the 1000 Guineas route unless
absolutely certain that Tiggy Wiggy will stay a mile?
Richard will almost certainly jump her out and
make the running before accelerating at the two fur-
long(s) marker; the rest will be dealt with in Sunday
newspaper articles; fascinating, fantastic and so eager-
ly-awaited by all time-handicap aficionados.
Over the same course and distance much-vaunted
stable-companion Ivawood also makes his seasonal
debut in the group two Greenham Stakes and what
beats him will win.
Ivawood has also been labelled a sprinter, the sit-
uation is similar and we expect this Zebedee colt to
score and become firm favourite for the 2000 Guineas.
Kieren Fallon had his first winner over here for a
long time on Thursday, at Chelmsford; now 50 the
six-times champion is complaining about lack of
opportunities but he ll be aboard Excilly for Tom
Dascombe s in-form yard in the Maiden Stakes over
six furlongs at Thirsk, and she s a "special!"
You can t beat experience!
Come on Tiggy
2.15, TIGGY WIGGY
2.50, IVAWOOD; THIRSK
2.45 EXCILLY (nap)
Having already struck with Investec Oaks possible
Star Of Seville earlier on the card, John Gosden
unveiled another potential pattern-race performer
when Yasmeen made an impressive debut in the
Colin Valley Stud Bridget Maiden Fillies Stakes.
Ridden prominently, the Sea The Stars filly readily
moved past early leader Little Prairie entering the
final furlong off the seven-furlong event, before
drawing two-lengths clear come the line in the manner
of an above-average performer.
Andrew Balding could well have an Oaks contender
of his own on his hands after Victoria Pollard made
a winning debut in the first division of the Whitley
Stud Maiden Fillies Stakes at Newbury.
Always travelling stylishly throughout the mile
contest, the Sir Percy filly moved to the front in
effortless fashion just outside the final furlong.
Although having a bit of look around, the 11/2
chance had enough to keep battling on long-time
leader Stubbins at bay by three-quarters of a length.
Harvard Man proved too smart for his rivals after
showing plenty of dash to land the Al Basti Equiworld
EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes.
After racing close to the pace throughout the five
furlongs, Brian Meehan s newcomer was sent to win
the race just outside the two-furlong marker.
is all class
