BARCELONA---Granada defender Diego Mainz
scored goals for both teams in a 1-1 draw against
visiting Sevilla in the Spanish league yesterday.
Also, Rayo Vallecano beat Almeria 2-0 to stay in
the middle of the table.
Granada went ahead against the run of play in
the 16th minute when Mainz shed his marker and
had time to place a header from a corner kick into
the far side of the net.
The teams traded scoring opportunities before
Sevilla coach Unai Emery sent on Ever Banega and
winger Aleix Vidal and played with a three-man
defense from the 62nd.
Banega immediately fired a long strike wide of
the post before his cross caused Granada s defense
Sevilla got its equaliser in the 69th when Vidal
worked a one-two passing combination with Jose
Antonio Reyes to break free on the right flank before
he sent in a low cross that Mainz deflected into his
own net. Sevilla pressed for the winner but Granada
held on to salvage a point.
Neither side got the result it needed. Granada
was left in second-to-last place, three points from
safety with six games left.
Sevilla, meanwhile, wasted a chance to pull level
with fourth-place Valencia, which it trails by two
points in their fight for the last Champions League
Sevilla next turns back to the Europa League,

BERLIN---Franco di Santo s late penalty earned
Werder Bremen a 1-0 win over Hamburger SV in
the northern derby yerterday to leave the visitors
last in the Bundesliga.
Di Santo sent Rene Adler the wrong way in the
84th minute after Valon Behrami was sent off for
pulling back Zlatko Junuzovic.
It was a hard-fought game with few real chances
and many fouls. Bremen defender Jannik Vestergaard
went off early after a bad challenge from Rafael van
Hamburg s best chance fell to Zoltan Stieber but
he shot just wide in the 28th.
Bremen rallied late. Former Hamburg youth Leven
Oztunali drew a fine save from Adler before di Santo
spoiled Bruno Labaddia s second debut as Hamburg
Labbadia was re-appointed Wednesday in a bid
to stave off relegation, becoming the club s fourth
coach of the season. Hamburg is the only founding
member of the Bundesliga never to have been rel-
egated but the club is four points from safety after
its fifth consecutive loss. Only five rounds of games
The home side dominated, especially in the second
half, only for Schalke s Leroy Sane to score on a
counterattack after a corner in the 53rd. The corner
was headed clear and the 19-year-old Sane ran from
his own half at isolated defender Christian Traesch,
got a lucky bounce from Maximilian Arnold s despair-
ing challenge, and tucked the ball inside the post.
Wolfsburg remained second, 12 points behind
Bayern Munich, which only needs two more victories
to claim its third straight title.
