Petr Cech moved to play down
reports that a deal had already been
struck with Arsenal over a proposed
£11 million transfer from Chelsea,
as talks continued over the future
of the veteran goalkeeper.
The Gunners are said to be close
to a deal for the Czech stopper, who
would prefer to keep his family in
London as he seeks a move away
from the Barclays Premier League
champions in search of regular foot-
Yesterday, it was reported a deal
had been agreed between Chelsea
and Arsenal for Cech. No official con-
firmation was made by either club.
Cech himself later retweeted a
message from his management com-
pany The Sports PR Company on his
official Twitter account indicating
nothing was yet set in stone.
The tweet read: "@SportsPRCom-
pany ... as we told you, No transfer
deal has been done yet for
@PetrCech---as soon as any news
@PetrCech will confirm."
Cech---who has played an instru-
mental role in Chelsea s success since
joining from Rennes in 2004---found
himself as understudy to Thibaut
Courtois at Stamford Bridge last sea-
son, but Blues captain John Terry is
in no doubt of just what an important
player the 33-year-old can be, claim-
ing he would be save "12 to 15 points
a season" for whichever club he joins.
In an interview, Terry said: "I am
sure if he does leave the club, which
nobody wants to see, but we under-
stand he wants to play football, he
is going to be sorely missed. He will
improve whatever side he goes to."
Terry added: "There is obviously
talk of Arsenal signing Petr and if
they do get Pete, that will strengthen
them for sure. He will save them 12
to 15 points a season."
Chelsea are expected to improve
their own squad again next season.
A season-long loan deal with
Monaco for Colombia forward
Radamel Falcao is expected to be
completed after Manchester United
opted against making the striker s
temporary move permanent at the
end of the season.
Terry believes Chelsea cannot
afford to stand still if they are to stay
ahead of the chasing pack in
"To be top of the league the whole
way through the season was an
exceptional thing to do, but you can t
kind of dwell on that. We have to
start concentrating on next season
and try to improve on that again,"
"When you win the league, you
know teams go and spend money to
buy the best.
"Manchester City were a little way
off this year and will strengthen.
"I feel Arsenal and Manchester
United are going to be very strong as
"We all know once you win it,
everyone wants to beat you the fol-
lowing year, (so) it will be even harder
for us to win the league again."
Traore to return to Chelsea
Chelsea striker Bertrand Traore
has been given a work permit and
will join the club s pre-season tour.
The Burkina Faso forward has
been registered as a Chelsea player
since January 2014, but at that time
he had not played enough interna-
tional football to earn a permit.
Chelsea sent him to Vitesse in the
Dutch Eredivisie, and he scored 13
league goals last season at a rate of
Traore will now have the chance
to impress Jose Mourinho on
Chelsea s tour of the United States,
where they play friendly matches
against New York Red Bulls, Paris
Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
Saints borrow Stekelenburg
Southampton have brought in
Holland goalkeeper Maarten Steke-
lenburg on a season-long loan from
Fulham to provide cover for the
injured Fraser Forster.
Both clubs announced the deal
on Monday evening, with the Saints
needing to make a move after Forster
damaged his left patellar tendon in
March---an injury which he is expect-
ed to take up to a year to recover
Stekelenburg, capped 54 times by
his country, spent last season on loan
at Monaco following Fulham s rel-
egation to the Sky Bet Championship.
Stekelenburg, 32, made only four
appearances for Monaco as he failed
to dislodge first-choice Danijel Sub-
asic, and he is now hoping to find
regular football at St Mary s.

Ings ready for hard work
Forward Danny Ings has pledged
to become the best he can be after
securing a dream move to Liverpool.
An impressive maiden top-flight
season with Burnley has led to the
22-year-old agreeing a deal to swap
Turf Moor for Anfield.
Ings will make the move at the
end of his contract on July 1, con-
tinuing a remarkable ascent which
started on the south coast.
A graduate of the Bournemouth
youth system, he spent part of the
