YOPRO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO is a networking group
for young professionals to allow them to get together to
create experiences with other like-minded persons and
connect with stakeholders, others in the same field, or
those who can offer new opportunities. Part of an inter-
national organisation, YoPro T&T comprises mainly per-
sons between the ages of 18 and 40. The local arm is
approaching its first anniversary.
WOW sat down with Ain Earle to find out what they
have been up to in the past year, and where they are
Q. Tell us about your Un-Masqu'd event.
A. It's going to be a celebration of our first anniversary.
The theme will be a Venetian carnival; with an aquatic
performance and jugglers.
It will be an experiential event, featuring fashion, philan-
thropy, food and music. The main part will be a silent
fashion auction by 10 local designers, namely Adrian Fos-
ter; Bay Leaf; Bene Caribe' Brown Cotton; CLD; Delia Al-
leyne; LOUD by Afiya Bishop; Richard Noel; RGG and
Rhion Romany. The auction will benefit the Autism Soci-
ety of T&T. There'll also be a pop up shop featuring Lisa
Faye; Jlehsiek; Koko Karibi Designs.
There'll be a fashion showcase, but it won't be on a run-
Q. Any other activities?
A. You'll learn to roll your own cigars, courtesy Café Ha-
vana. There will be a champagne area as you come in, and
a chocolate-making station.
Once you purchase a couture piece from our designers,
you can get your ticket for half price.
Q. What other events have you had?
A. We conducted a workshop on the business of carnival,
and a food network-
ing event, which
was similar to the
Chopped, and held
at TTHTI. Each par-
ticipant was given a
and you had to make a
dish with 5 other ingredients
--- you had to meet 5 other people.
Then you were given 30 minutes to create a dish. It was
judged by chefs from TTHTI as well as others.
Q. What was the reaction to that?
A. It was one of the best attended events we have had. It
was more than the interaction of meeting people --- it
was a full on competition! We also had a wine and choco-
late event, with pairings of wine, chocolate and rum, and
a talk on the cocoa industry by exporTT.
Q. So it's only about social events?
A. No. Outside of the networking we're assisting people
with an opportunity fair -- an expo, and workshops. We
have had two opportunity fairs thus far. The first was in
Information Technology, what it's like working in the in-
dustry and how to succeed. At the end we had a
hackathon -- 6 to 7 participants were given a problem to
solve, pizza and beers, and 5 hours to get it done.
The second fair was in music and entertainment.
Q. How can people join YoPro?
A. Find us on Facebook or contact the founder, Ty
Richardson, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Un-Masqu'd will take place at the Kapok Hotel on Sun-
day August 16th from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. You can get
tickets on theperfectlifefor.me, or find YoPro T&T on
