IT'S a source of concern that Dr. Keith Rowley is
still to announce any policies for the further devel-
opment of Tnnidad and Tobago.
This after his public pledge last October to unveil
such policies and programmes..
Rowley's inaction contrasts sharply with the
People's Partnership, which has revealed in-depth
plans with respect to all major productive sectors.
Just this week. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bis-
sessar trotted out plans for the development of the
eastern seaboard Rowley is emerging as a prime
ministerial contender without a plan.

WE commend Prime Minister Kamla Persad-
Bissessar for her holistic plan for the revitalisation
of the capital city of Port of Spain.
The Prime Minister has detailed projects rang-
ing from a tower in downtown, to re-development
of public squares, to new commercial centres, to
leisure and entertainment facilities.
The capital city requires rejuvenation, and we
are happy at PM Persad-Bissessar's announced

WHY I WANT TO
DE ATE ROWLEY
was proud to outline Trinidad
and Tobago's successful eco-
nomic performance under my
government to Cecilia MaIm-
strõm, the European Commissioner
for Trade, and also to the American
Chamber of Commerce this week..
We are truly a regional powerhouse.
It was exciting, too, to outline my
plan for the futme and the continued
development and widening of our
t's our successful record in govern-
ment and our detailed plan for a bet-
ter future for Trinidad and Tobago
that makes me so keen to debate the
forthcoming election with my oppo-
nent Keith Rowley There is so much I
want to say and e>.qJ am.
I am very confident that the people
of Trinidad and Tobago will recognise
that our COlUltry needs to stay on the
road to a better future and will elect
my government for a second term..
That's why last week I issued a
challenge to Mr Keith Rowley.. I asked
him if he was ready to debate? I said
let's do this.. I said come on Mr Row-
ley et's debate one-an-one, mano a
I want the people of Trinidad and
Tobago to be ftùly mformed.
They deserve to hear a debate be-
tween the two contenders to be Prime
Minister. And we need to have it as
soon as possible so that people have
time to make up their minds..
Since then CNMG have confirmed
they are ready and willing to host the
debate on the agreed date of 30 July.
Persad - Blssessar
I want to de bate and I am ready.. 've
cleared my diary and I am enthusi-
astic to put my plan and vision to the
people of Trinidad and Tobago.
And what has been the response
of Mr Keith Row ey? His silence has
been deafening.. He does not want to
de bate. He does not want to speak to
the people of Trinidad and Tobago..
And I think I mow why this is.. I
think I know his thinlång.. He does
not want the people of our country to
know that he has no p an, no vision
and no idea..
This election is not a game.. It is not
a spectator sport.. It is about deciding
who will lead our great COlUltry. Who
will take us forward? It is about mak-
ing a real difference t.o people 78 lives
My government has built and is
building a new Trinidad and Tobago
which is ambitious, idealistic, and
lU1Îted. A p ace where people suc-
ceed on the basis of what they do for
their counby, rather than what they
take from theIr country..
It's so important that as a nation we
keep going fOlWards.. It's so impor-
tant my government secure a second
