Any reports that the Housing Develop-
ment Corporation (HDC) is encouraging suc-
cessful housing applicants to bypass the T&T
Mortgage Finance (TTMF) Company in
favour of Republic Bank is baseless and
untrue, says HDC s manager of Settlements
and Community Relations, Renatta Jones.
Last Week Opposition Leader Dr Keith Row-
ley told citizens the HDC was now advising
applicants to seek funding at other financial
institutions, despite low interest rates at TTMF.

Responding to questions sent to her via e-
mail, Jones said approved applicants for state
or government housing were free to seek
home/property financing from any of the myr-
iad of legal sources, of their choice, which are
available to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
She said those sources included loan facilities
by any commercial lender of their choice,
including a credit union, traditional commercial
bank or mortgage bank or personal funds, pro-
vided by self through savings or family.
"In fact, the HDC s statistics prove that
approved applicants often opt to seek financing
from lending agencies with whom they have
an existing relationship," Jones said.
She said both TTMF and Republic Bank
remained key partners of the HDC; with
whom the HDC has forged a strategic
partnership to assist citizens of Trinidad
and Tobago who are accessing state hous-
ing with financing.
