CNC3 s Crime Watch host Ian
Alleyne this week highlighted one
of the more tragic stories of recent
times---the suicide of Sherry-Ann
Seecharan ingested poison two
weeks after her daughter Mohini
Ganase shot and killed Seecharan s
husband, prisons officer Robert
Seecharan, while defending her
mother from a violent assault by
On Wednesday morning, Seecha-
ran ingested a poisonous liquid
while at her sister s home at See-
balack Trace, Barrackpore.
Seecharan s daughter Mohini said
her mother was frustrated and
slipped into a depression after los-
ing her husband and her home, as
she was allegedly put out.
On Tuesday, Alleyne also high-
lighted another story that touched
the entire nation---the fire that
destroyed the home of freelance
video journalist Ramdeo Heeralal
and claimed the life of his younger
daughter Rheia Heeralal, 24.
Heeralal and his eldest daughter,
Rheisa, 30, also suffered burns
about their bodies in the incident.
Alleyne visited the scene of the
fire at the corner of Sapphire and
Topaz Avenue, Cunupia, where he
showed exclusive footage of the
inside of the house.
He showed how the entire inside
of the house was completely burnt
In another story, Alleyne aired
exclusive video footage of the mur-
ders of two men by gunmen in El
Socorro, San Juan, on Wednesday
The victims were identified as
Darryl Ramcharitar, 39, of Don
Miguel Road and Roshad Jones, 20,
of Prizgar Road. The incident
occurred shortly after 7 pm at
Chandoo Lane, San Juan.
Residents reportedly called the
Emergency Health Services and the
police after they heard gunshots
around 8 pm and found the men
bleeding along the roadway when
they went outside to investigate.
Ramcharitar died while receiving
treatment and Jones died on Thurs-
Alleyne visited the area on
Thursday and received vital infor-
mation regarding the alleged motive
behind the double killing.
He aired footage of the shooting
and the gunmen and called on
members of the public who may
have any information on the gun-
men to contact him at 294-4081.

On Tuesday, Alleyne
also showed a video of
a man stealing a
cellphone at a wholesale
and retail store on
Charlotte Street, Port-
In less than 12 hours,
an unidentified man
went to the reception
desk at CNC3 where he
dropped off the stolen
contacted the owner,
Nika Dasent, of Trou
Macaque, and presented
her with the phone live
on air on Wednesday.
In another case, Alleyne was
visited in the studio by the grieving
mother of murder victim Keith
Lawrence, 40, of Erica Street,
Laventille. Lawrence's bullet-
riddled body was found at Pioneer
Drive, Sea Lots, on August 8).
His mother Sherrita told Alleyne
that she believed her son was
robbed and murdered. She said
when she last heard from him he
had told her he was going to Sea
Lots to drop off a Sou Sou of over
$5,000. Alleyne assured Sherrita
that he would launch an
investigation into her son's murder.
Alleyne also highlighted last
Saturday's double murder of Curtis
"Cash Money" Hazel, 36, and his
girlfriend, Nefertiti Burke, 19.
Hazel's ten-year-old daughter,
Empress, escaped death in the
attack on her parent.
According to police reports,
Hazel, a father of four, Burke and
Empress were driving along
Plaisance Road, Laventille, around
noon last Friday (August 7) when
gunmen from Block 8 fired on
Empress survived after she,
although seated in the back seat,
managed to pull up the handbrake
of her father's car, fled from the
vehicle and ran back to her
grandmother's Beverly Hills,
Marcano Quarry, apartment.
The Crime Watch show host
expressed disgust over Burke's
murder, given the fact that she
was a well-educated and intelligent
young person who was pursuing a
bachelor's degree in Business
Management at Roytec.
Alleyne said he strongly believed
Burke and Hazel were in the wrong
place at the wrong time.
