Six months after Southern fashion
designer Kirby Mohammed disappeared
without a trace, his mother made an
emotional social media plea for his cap-
tors to return him regardless of his con-
Linda Mohammed, managing director
of Trinzuela College, took to Facebook to
express her grief over the weekend.
In a post on Kirby'sFacebook page,
Mohammed said: "We as a family, myself
and his three brothers and so many of his
relatives and friends, are faithfully waiting
to hear from him. The pain lingers from
day to day which is like an internal night-
mare for us all."
She said none of her son's belongings
were ever found.
"Kirby was apparently abducted, his
car taken away from him, his computer
confiscated, his personal documents---ID,
driver's permit, all bank cards, car insur-
ance, withdrawals from his bank account---
all that he had on his possession that
unforgettable day was taken from him."
Mohammed pleaded with those respon-
sible for her son's disappearance to sur-
render to the police.
"I hope that the individuals who have
taken my fatherless son and our dear friend
will one day surrender to the law or to
the lord Jesus Christ for this inhumane
act and would have the courage to return
him to us so that the Lord can forgive
them for what they have done to tear an
entire family's life apart," she said
She asked that they return her son, no
matter his condition.
"I am still pleading with them to please
return my son, regardless to his condition
or the circumstances to me!"
a new hearing
A convicted murderer has been granted a new
hearing in his almost two decades long battle
to prove his innocence.
President Anthony Carmona, exercising his
constitutional power of pardon, has referred Albert
Edwards' case to the Court of Appeal for it to
consider fresh evidence pertaining to a witness
who may have fabricated evidence against him.
A press release from the Office of the President
stated that Carmona made the decision on the
advice of the head of the Mercy Committee, Justice
Minister Prakash Ramadhar.
This was Edwards' second appeal to the com-
mittee, also known as the Advisory Committee
on the Power of Pardon, to consider reopening
his case, Former President George Maxwell
Richards did not act on his initial application in
In the application lodged by his attorney Douglas
Mendes, SC, in May, Edwards seeks to raise the
"bad character" of former Justice of the Peace
Farouk Ali, who allegedly authenticated a con-
fession statement from Edwards which was key
in his conviction.
He is relying on Ali's conviction for corruption,
as well as a Privy Council judgement in another
case involving Ali, in which he was described as
"a totally discredited witness who can no longer
be regarded as a witness of truth". Ironically, Car-
mona, a former High Court Judge, prosecuted
Ali's case during his stint at the Office of the
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Edwards and his co-accused Angel Thomas
were convicted of the murder of Faustin St Louis
in May 1992. Their appeals against their convic-
tions were rejected by the Appeal Court and the
Privy Council, but their death sentences were
eventually commuted to 75 years in prison with
hard labour in 1998.
A date for the hearing of the case will be set
by the court when the new law terms opens in
two weeks time.
Missing man's mother
makes appeal on Facebook
The T&T Guardian contacted Southern Division Inspector Don Gajadhar who said
the police have not given up their search for Kirby.
"We are doing continuous work, we have not stopped," he said. "We had retrieved
some information and exhibits and we sent it for analysis."
Gajadhar said the police have a suspect and are in the building a case against that
"We are not sitting down on this, we are in the process of building our case, we
have the technical people checking information related to his laptop," he said.
