Marquee T&T cyclist Emile Abraham has been
confirmed as one of over 120 competitors who
will do battle in the 15th Caribbean Elite Road
Cycling Championship to be staged in Barbados
Organisers said they were also expecting riders
from 23 Caribbean countries, including Cuba, Puerto
Rico and Guadeloupe, to be present for the October

In a release issued yesterday, Lewis said an emphasis
on social media, technological innovation and mobile
penetration will open up a new realm of possibilities
for the TTOC.
He said online fund raising, the internet economy
and tapping into shifting habits against a backdrop
of Trinidad and Tobago having the highest smart
phone (mobile devices) penetration in the Caribbean

delivering higher quality service to Olympic athletes.
"From a strategic perspective an action plan to over-
come the economic threat and weaknesses that
impede sustainable and predictable funding support
to Olympic athletes is a critical success factor.
"The TTOC has sole and exclusive authority for
the Olympic Games an essential aspect of that man-
date is supporting and protecting the Olympic aspi-
rations of Trinidad and Tobago Athletes."

"This year we're expecting the Championships
to be one of the best and the biggest to be held
in the 15 years," Yearwood said.
"The Barbados Cycling Union has been working
assiduously since November last year when we got
the championships in October, and we've been
working assiduously to ensure we do all in our
power to give this championship the hype it
A time trial will be the highlight of the opening
day on October 17 and it will see riders using the
ABC Highway from Mile and A Quarter, in the
northern parish of St Peter to the Norman Niles
roundabout, in the south-western parish of St
Riders will then return to the start, in a circuit
that has been measured at around 40 kilometres.
The second day of the championship will feature
the circuit race starting from Bushy Park in the
rugged eastern parish of St John and proceeding
on a route through St Phillip, on the south-western
side of the island.
Riders are expected to complete 11 laps of the
nearly 15 kilometre circuit.
Logistics manager for the championship, Charlie
Pile, said preparations were at an advanced stage.
"Preparations are approximately 85 per cent com-
plete at this time. The remaining 15 per cent is
stuff which can be achieved within the time left."
The Caribbean Media Corporation are part spon-
sors of the championship and will be featuring
