And that is exactly what Stephen Hadeed, founder and
managing director of Stephensons has accomplished.
Hadeed is an old boy of Fatima College, Port-of-Spain and a
graduate of the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada
where he earned two degrees -- a Bachelor of Arts in Social
Sciences and the other a Bachelor of Commerce (with Hon-
ours in Business Administration).
Hadeed said he takes pride in excellent customer service
given to all who visit his stores located in downtown Port-
of-Spain; The Falls at West Mall, Westmoorings; Long Cir-
cular Mall, St. James; Trinicity Mall, Trincity, Chaguanas and
Shops of Arima.
"Our customers are extremely important to all of us at
our stores" he said, "Therefore, they deserve the best possi-
ble service...nothing less than the best."
The company originally stocked English suiting, men's
suits, shirts and ties, it was a brand new company but with
aggressive advertising, people soon got to know Stephen-
sons and the name become synonymous with quality. Be-
cause of his reputation, many distinguished citizens have
patronised the store. As its reputation grew, people from all
over the Caribbean have come to Trinidad to purchase their
needs at Stephensons.
"We must continue to provide the men of TT with the
very best. We aren't expensive but that's not because our
merchandise isn't of good design and quality; it's because
we know our business and we do it well," Hadeed said with
Over the years, Stephensons' business has expanded to

West Mall. The latter is the home of more exclusive fine

to find these items anywhere other than Stefano's as the

A nice experience in Chaguanas
Lisa Kamrudeen began working for Stephensons Fash-
ions as manager of the Trincity Mall branch in 2006. Now
When Stephensons Fashions Limited
opened its doors 15 years ago, it was
with the intention of providing the people
of Trinidad and Tobago with the best
quality suits, shirts, shoes and acces-
sories at the lowest prices.
she is heading up the two stores in Chaguanas at Centre
City Mall and Main Road, Chaguanas and is eager for her
clients in South and Central Trinidad to experience the two
Previously, Lisa worked at another clothing establishment
in Trincity Mall as a manager for 16 years. a friend recom-
mended her to Stephen Hadeed and she was hired right
away as he had known her from the store and had an idea of
her impeccable work ethic.
She was the manager at the Trincity branch for four years
and found satisfaction in watching her customers find a suit
or outfit that made them look their best.
"When it comes to clothing, it's simply easier to deal with
men than women," she laughed. She also appreciates the
fact that the clothes found at Stephensons are different
from other stores.
"Men too don't like it when they see another man in the
same event, in the same outfit and shopping at Stephen-
sons is a good way to avoid having that problem too often."
According to Lisa, when she was manager of the Trincity
branch she significantly built the store's clientele -- many of
them from Tobago, South and Central.
"A lot of our customers came back to shop for all their
events and they always talked about the great service. They
even told others and so we got a lot of business through re-
ferrals," she explained. She noted that most people know
there are two Stephensons in Chaguanas. However, she is
ready to welcome her past clients, who know and like her, to
the two stores.
Lisa moved to Chaguanas to establish the stores. She de-
scribed setting up the store from scratch as "a nice experi-
ence," especially since she was given the opportunity to
display and arrange the interior to her liking. She is also very
happy with her staff, who she said was very helpful with the
packing and cleaning. "They are pleasant with customers
and are very supportive and respectful. I in turn have come
to respect them," Lisa said. They work with her as a team,
paying attention to everything she does and in the process,
learn since they realise how experienced she is in gents
Lisa is particularly satisfied with her workers who are now
experienced sales persons. "They are very hardworking,
helpful and responsible and take the initiative to do things
around the store," she explained. "However, I am still in the
process of training to do fittings and bring them up to the
level of Stephensons' renowned customer service."
