quarry turned fatal for a La Brea
truck driver after he was buried
alive in a mudslide on Wednes-

A hunter was shot dead after being
mistaken for an animal by another
member of the hunting party during
a expedition in Pilot Forest, Guaygua-
yare, on Wednesday night.
The victim has been identified only
as Sheldon of Tamana.
A police helicopter was used to help
retrieve the body from the forest. The
death is being treated as accidental
although the other hunters who accom-
panied Sheldon on the trip are being
questioned by the police.
Reports indicate that around 6 pm
on Wednesday, Sheldon, accompanied
by a number of men, including Ram-
persad Maharaj and Steve Mendoza,
went on a hunting trip some eight miles
off the Gudron Oil Fields, Guaygua-

of the hunters mistook the movement
of Sheldon for that of an animal, took
aim and fired a shot, hitting his target,

a pool of blood.
Efforts made to revive him proved
A number of the hunters made the
trek out of the forest to seek assistance
and arrived at the Mayaro Police Station
around 6 am on Thursday.
Investigations are continuing.

Eventually Lovelace was shot
twice and as he fell to the ground,
the gunman picked up the bag and
ran off through the crowded street.
Lovelace was taken to hospital
by a private vehicle. San Fernando
CID, including ASP Rawl Ramdeo,
Insp Don Gajadhar, Sgt Inshan
Teeluck and Cpl Vinton Dinoo,
responded and launched a search
for the gunman.
Police were yet to hold the sus-
pect and were hoping to get CCTV
camera footage from surrounding

advised business owners to use
more secure ways to deposit their

Cops hold 25 illegals on PBR
Over two dozen non-nationals
were detained by police and
immigration officers in exercises
along the Priority Bus Route
(PBR) on Wednesday, the National
Security Ministry confirmed.
The ministry said it was the
latest phase of on-going exercises
