The current recession
has not dampened the
spirit of love. In fact,
Cupid seems to be work-
ing overtime in 2016.
With that said, there are
many ways couples can
still do little things to
keep the romance alive
Here are a few online
Caribbean couples on how
to romance during a reces-
• Take the person you
love to experience
in nature: a sunset, a
sunrise, the calm of the
beach, share an
evening walk gazing at
• Mail a love letter to
your spouse. Ladies
can spray the letter
with a little of their
favourite perfume and
men can dab their af-
tershave on their love
• Go to a bookstore,
enjoy the silence and
browse. Get a cup of
coffee and make a date
• Send your spouse a
sexy email message or
text. Caution: do not
make the mistake and
accidentally send it to
everyone on your mail-
• Leave "Why I love you"
messages all over the
house. Buy a package
of the cheap Valen-
tines. Leave a message
on each one and hide
them all over the
house for your honey.
They will get to enjoy
the gift for months!
• Create a CD with
songs that make you
think of your sweet-
heart, and give it to
• Use lipstick to make
hearts and love notes

car windows, bath-

• If you don't have money to dress
to the nines and go out, have a
picnic on the floor. Use some can-
dles and lay a blanket on the floor.
Put on some music and have a ro-
mantic Valentine's dinner. The
food can come from any place
you choose. For an added touch,
break out the old Christmas lights
from last year to up the romance.
• Make chocolate covered straw-
berries and enjoy them with
sparkling cider. Here's how: 1)
Melt a package of chocolate chips
in a double boiler and add a small
amount of oil; 2) Remove from
heat and quickly dip the straw-
berries into the chocolate; 3)
Place on wax paper and refriger-
ate for several hours until choco-
late is firm.
• Watch an old movie at home to-
gether, with popcorn, hot dogs,
soft drinks and candy -- movie-
• Play a sport together that you
haven't played in awhile, or that
you rarely get a chance to enjoy.
Before you start, determine what
the "winner" gets (making it

• Plan a scavenger hunt. Write
clues and place them in en-
velopes, and place the envelopes
around town. Make the final clue
a doozey of a destination.
• Mail a card to your spouse or kids
each day during the two weeks
before Valentine's Day. A nice sur-
prise that's even cheaper is just to
put a card or note in each of their
rooms or in hubby's car each morn-
• Decorate a small box and fill it with
cut out hearts for your spouse or
kids with messages saying why
you love them. Give it to them on
Valentine's Day or give it to them
February 1 and let them draw one
message each day. Here are some

• "I love the way you smell so good."
• "I love how you make a good curry
• "I love it when you think of me first
and do things like the dishes."
• "I love it when you take the kids to
the store with you and give me an
hour to myself."
• "I love it when you remember my

Lastly, if you don't have a special
sweetheart, focus on bringing a smile
or laughter to everyone you come in
