The 2017 Elantra inspires a sense of futuristic design
and attractiveness because of its fluidic lines and strong
front character. The implementation of the hexagonal
grille, characteristic of Hyundai Motor, gives more airflow
through the grille front wheels and redesigned headlights
give the model its own personality. The total length of the
model is increased by 20 mm, while its total width is also
increased by 25mm which provides a more robust and ath-
letic posture as well as more space. Daytime headlights
high intensity (High Intensity Discharge) and LED lights
unique design, are available for the first time in the new
Elantra. Other options, such as alloy wheels, 17 and 18
inches, the new presentation of LED lights approximation
door handles, side mirrors with LED turn signals and LED
taillights with high-tech graphics add a level of sophistica-
tion and detail .
Most notably is the driver seating position with a high
level of comfort. Whether hitting the road switching from
driver modes of eco or sport, the car was very comfortable
amidst the backdrop of the lush Puerto Rican vegetation
before stopping off for local lunch at the first checkpoint.
Acceleration and braking was very responsive from the 1.6
litre gasoline engine but it is also available in a 2.0 litre ver-
sion as well with around 127 and 152 horsepower respec-
tively. My comparison to others in its class is as if seated
on a futuristic Hyundai cloud with less fatigue on the body
allowing for a better focus on the Elantra's driving experi-
ence and less driver distraction. People will feel different
when occupying the driver's seat of the 6th generation
Elantra. This is due to the shell structure of the cabin, with
its board tilted slightly towards the driver which provides a
perfect surround interface between human and machine.
In addition, the instrument panel provides a sense of
space, while maintaining a modern and optimized driver-
oriented to achieve intuitive control design.
Continuing the drive to Hacienda Munoz, San Lorenzo
for a tour and coffee break, I realized that the stiffer body
structure and advanced security features are factors that
the new Elantra has achieved a higher safety classification.
From a safety perspective, 53 percent of the chassis has
been reinforced with advanced high strength steel (Ad-
vanced High Strength Steel) compared to 21 percent over
the previous model, providing improved rigidity and safety.
The Elantra is available with seven airbags including the
driver's knee. The new Elantra has the most advanced
technology to protect passengers in the event of an acci-
dent, the safety features actively act to prevent accidents.
Electronic Stability Control (Electronic Stability Control)
provides excellent maneuverability during sudden braking
and rotated maintaining vehicle stability. The model also is
available with detection system blind spot (Blind Detection
System) which detects and alerts the driver when another
vehicle is in an invisible position in the side mirrors. In addi-
tion, a key feature for many customers in the region is
Start Assist Control (Hill Assist Control), which after start-
ing on a road with slope braking force applied temporarily
to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward.
Returning to the hotel, brought a sort of sadness to me
as we had to park up the car and return to reality. The
Elantra is truly the Elantra's only competitor in sedans for
2017. Thanks to the Hyundai Puerto Rican team who were
very surgical with the planning and execution of this drive
that the group was ahead of the schedule. We had enough
time to change up and board the ferry for the Gala dinner
80s & 90s Retro party at Palomino island.
Feel free to visit any one of the Massy Motors show-
rooms, Richmond Street - Port of Spain, Morvant, Chagua-
nas , San Fernando or Tobago and book an Elantra test
