Local historian and renowned
author Angelo Bissessarsingh, who
was hospitalised last week, is making
slow recovery and his family remains
convinced he will be out of the hos-
pital by next week.
In an interview, Bissessarsingh's
father, Rudolph, said his son had
proven to be strong.
"It's warrior blood in his lineage,"
Rudolph said, adding: "My son strives
on the support and love he receives
from his friends."
Saying Bissessarsingh has sufficient
blood for his immediate needs,
Rudolph said he was heartened by the
support they received from President
Anthony Carmona, Prime Minister Dr
Keith Rowley, journalists Judy Ray-
mond and Francesca Hawkins and
Energy Minister Franklin Khan and
his wife, Laura Sewlal-Khan.
"Angelo is on the upswing.
They gave him antibiotics and it
has him drowsy and sleepy. He
has shown remarkable improve-
ment. I want to thank the
Guardian and all his friends and
thousands of well-wishers by
expressing deep gratitude. I feel
their prayers and well-wishes are
keeping him alive," Rudolph said.
He said President Carmona and
Dr Rowley called the family.
"They have arranged for him
to have all his medication. I want
to thank all the children and
teachers of Siparia East Secondary
school, past students and all his
friends from Naparima College
who have assisted us," Rudolph
He also said all the churches in
T&T were praying for Bissessars-
ingh. "The doctors say he may be
out by next week. Maybe by next
Wednesday we will know. For now
we are all happy that he is
improving," Rudolph added.
Bissessarsingh, who was diag-
nosed with terminal pancreatic
cancer in 2015, was hospitalised
last Wednesday after suffering
Following his hospitalisation,
Guardian Media paved the way
for the T&T Blood Bank to set up
its mobile unit at its Port-of-
Spain office to facilitate blood
donations for Bissessarsingh.
Another blood drive was held for
him on December 13 at the
Chaguanas head office.
Last week, the University of
Trinidad and Tobago (UTT)
announced that Bissessarsingh
would receive an honorary degree.
Bissessarsingh, who recently
published a new book, titled A
Walk Back in Time: Snapshots of
the History of Trinidad and Toba-
go, is the founder of the Virtual
Museum of T&T and has been
lauded by many as a guardian of
the country's history.
Meanwhile, Guardian Media
Limited senior reporter, Rhondor
Dowlat, remains hospitalised and
is in need of blood.
Donors can visit the mobile
blood bank at GML's St Vincent
Street site today from 9 am to
3.30 pm for those who are inter-
ested in giving blood.
