Home' Trinidad and Tobago Guardian : December 3rd 2016 Contents Valencia residents are calling for the parents of
the two toddlers who died in a fire at their home
yesterday afternoon to be charged with negligence.
Speaking with reporters a couple hours after
four-year-old Mawaki Gordon and his two-year-
old sister, Miracle, perished in the fire at their
home at Tattoo Trace, Valencia, next door neigh-
bour Judith Daniel and Local Government coun-
cillor, Simone Gill, were highly critical of their
parents, who were not at home at the time of the
Abby Trini: Sick and tired of these depressing
articles. . lord father please protect these children.
Marisa Gonzales: So neighbours saw smoke
coming from the house and no one thought to as-
sess whether anyone was inside? That 4-year-old
should've been in kindergarten (All ECCE offered
by the government are free) and the 2-year-old in
daycare or with a relative. What madness. How
could u leave a two and four-year-old by them-
Harry Ramharack: Poor parents have to work,
feed, clothe, school, shelter their children. The
safety of these children is never given any priority
and as a result such mishaps will continue to take
place. Day-by-day survival of the poor is becom-
ing more and more burdensome.
Ann James: Long ago its said, it takes a village
to raise a child. Why didn't those same neighbours
talk to the parents about leaving the kids alone or
report them to the police? Now everyone is talking.
Likewise with the four year old child . . . everyone
saw the signs and did nothing about it. This is un-
acceptable people....Lord have mercy.
Glenda FrenchePopeau: So I read the article,
and it says that some people were aware that these
children were sometimes left alone. So many peo-
ple were aware, and you mean no one complained
to the Children's Authority or Social Workers
about the conditions in which those children lived?
I think we should be a more caring society.
Carrie Lyn Lord: They should be charged. Who
leaves a four-year-old and a two-year-old home
alone? And from watching the news clip from
CNC3 this was the first or the second time they
left those babies home alone.
Heather Bryan Emmanuel: Why only when
tragedy occurs that people have a lot of negative
things to say after the fact. If they were aware that
the kids were being left home alone they should
have inform the authorities. If u see something, do
something before it is too late.
Where were you?
A barbaric act!
That's how the uncle of four-year-old Jenice
Ruth Figaro described the child's death yesterday,
declaring that no stone will be left unturned until
they get justice.
An emotional Fintan James was speaking dur-
ing the child's funeral service at her grandfather's
home, not far from her home at Corosal Road,
Joefield Jean: That's when we like to give our
children step whatever, we don't know what it
is to stick and grind it out with the ones we have
brought into the world! Why as a mother didn't
you check out your child from time to time and
ensure your child is okay! We make them and drop
them like they don't have owners and leave them
up to the mercy of the steps whatever! God will
deal with these people, as a mother my belly hurts
for this innocent infant.
Amanda M Williams: The only person to be
blamed for this child death is the person that killed
Sumin Gration Hernandez: I have a 4-year-
old also and if I see a scratch on his skin I inquire
about it from his driver, his teacher, everybody he
was around..... I ain't playing. Just by inquiring
it's enough to let ppl know you serious about your
child..... R. I. P baby girl I pray for your parents to
find peace and courage.
Nicole Roland: I hope all the people that stand-
ing in judgment can stand for judgment. Make sure
you never slip up or fall short in this life. The truth
is, yet again, society at large has failed to protect
an innocent. From the halls of the Parliament who
have failed to put proper social services in place
to the next door neighbour who I can bet saw or
heard or felt something strange was going on and
say "I not getting in ppl business"
. We have all
failed. It's time we moved away from blaming and
move towards fixing.
Lou Sandy: Many more cases like this all over...
Jerland Cameron: None, I repeat none of them
had enough love for that child, otherwise she was
not going to be 6 feet under today. So all those
fake bawlers who was crying for the camera yes-
terday. The only thing you all didn't do was film
that abuse and put it on Facebook, but everyone
who was supposed to know about that child being
abused knew. There are people who love to watch
the agony in death and the number is growing.
3 cops on extortion charges
Three days after two police officers attached to
the Western Division appeared in court on fraud
charges, three officers from the Rapid Response
Unit (RRU) operating out of the division were ar-
rested in connection with the extortion of a Diego
The officers, all constables, were arrested fol-
lowing a sting operation between Wednesday night
and yesterday morning by members of the Profes-
sional Standards Bureau. The men are now being
kept at three different police stations within the
Margarita Hinksoni: Get them all.
Jewel Flores: If arrests like this continues, the
citizenry might regain confidence and respect for
the TTPS. Clean them out.
