MINISTER: DECLINE IN TOURIST
ARRIVALS FOR CARNIVAL
This was indicated by Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly,
Minister of Community Development, Culture and
Arts, as she disclosed declining or very stagnant
tourist arrivals and dwindling audiences at Carnival
events are what forced the Government to intervene
in its affairs.
Nerissa Dqueen They fed up of the same thing
year after year! No creativity in the mas!
Tisha-Marie Dayal Crime is a factor of course,
but climbing hotel costs and participation packages
(fete tickets, costumes) just no longer make it a via-
ble destination either.
Stephen Neptune To much crime, they fraid to
Gailann Jugmohansingh And you don't think
the daily murders have anything to do with that?
Josh Tajoo Why highlight the problem and not
speak about the cause it's simple maths ie reduced
crime = higher amount of visitors/tourists. Enact
the laws that convict persons on videos committing
crimes; speed up the infrastructure and develop-
ment of a DNA data bank; establish laws to use
trace evidence that can secure convictions; beef up
border security/ small boats, or do we just blame
the previous regime and think it would solve the
Leslie Liverpool Why would a person who
knows about modern day Trinidad want to come
here for a holiday and risk being a victim of crime.
Michael Mohammed Shamfa is boss, she in
Catylin Joseph Until carnival becomes a specta-
tor sport, there is a decline in crime and we present
packages for low-cost participation, then it will
continue to decline.
Laura Baker I think every citizen should boycott
carnival as a fight against crime.
Suzette Ganga So how come the hotels are
booked? Can't get a room anywhere.
Sharon Jorcil James Maybe tourists afraid of
crime in Trinidad and Visine eye drop water in To-
bago... hence their decline to visit.
Winston Ankatiah Where the "we in charge"
minister who had answers. Hmm guess kamla tief
all de tourist too. Doh worry, a reconstituted THA
will fix dat. What and how has funding for tourism
ministry been spent? Not ah word and guess no one
interested. Same old new year.
Aleem Ali Carnival is a waste of taxpayers mon-
ey.Nila Mahase Maharaj No? Really? Could it be
the runaway crime situation?
Sunita Gopaulchan Beharry why don't we boy-
cott carnival this year?
Alydia Mackie Not surprising. Have you ever
read the travel advisories for Trinidad? Sounds more
like a death trap than an island paradise.
Daniella Candy Fox So make the tickets cheap-
er, it's too expensive.
T&T slides down corruption index
T&T has slipped four points on the Corruption
Perceptions Index (CPI), from a score of 39 in 2015
to 35 in 2016.
Elsa Forgenie Corruption in T&T? Where is the
Margaret Kelly That is not true, very false!
Iniath Mohammed So what!
T&T relay men set for 2008 Olympic gold
It's not official yet but going on past history, T&T
is well poised to gain its third Olympic gold medal
sometime in the very near future.
Petal Montague-Sylvester Imagine you know
you're clean and you got your gold medal honestly
only to find out someone else's dishonesty is making
you lose the medal. Smh. That's so hard for bolt eh.
Congrats to our national team though, even though
I'm sure this is not how they wanted to get gold.
Trini Deryck People should really read this ar-
ticle to the end to understand the total disrespect
handed out to our athletes in this modern day---no
funding, have to pay your expenses out your picket.
But as soon as you win a medal the government of
the day has a parade and a ceremony for you. It's
ridiculous and sad of all our governments how we
treat our sport men and women. Seems like we still
in 1976 when these same methods were used on
Hasley Crawford. It's not improving at all, like it's
getting worse instead.
David H Joseph No one ever wants to win a gold
medal this way... but others cheating, is beyond
your control. So kudos to the team that found out.
Nathan Marcano Tho I'm happy that my coun-
try are the ones receiving the gold medal, I rejoice
not in the pain that will now be placed upon Mr Us-
ain Bolt and my Caribbean neighbour Jamaica.
Kevin Daley Am a proud Jamaican; happy its still
in the Caribbean region, one love T&T.
Nigel Jayt Maloney I just hope my boy know he
have to repay me the bet I lost, then pay me for win-
ning the bet.
Ryan Gavin Cumberbatch So when is the hol-
Tarandath Beepat I want my post dated holiday.
Lenore Mc Pherson They deserve it. don't
cheat. Congrats T&T.
