Because he came from hum-
ble beginnings and was not able
to achieve academically, two
awards the late Chairman Emer-
itus of ANSA McAL Dr Anthony
Norman Sabga cherished dearly
were the Order of the Republic of
T&T (ORTT) and the Doctorate of
Laws bestowed upon him by the
University of the West Indies.
Lydia Dyer: Tears to my eyes.
Farid El-Khalil: Dr Anthony
Sabgha was a grand gentleman
who built up an empire and a very
successful dynasty. He was a great
philanthropist who cared about his
people and his country.
Mary Baltiste: Wow! Humble be-
ginnings! He did accomplished much
more in his lifetime than many who
had academic qualifications! What
a remarkable man! He will be greatly
missed! He left a legacy. My condo-
lences to Mrs Sabga and the entire
family! I pray for God's continued
strength and comfort at this time.
Roma Swanson: He came from
humble beginnings, made his for-
tune and got everything his heart's
desired from T&T. He was awarded
the highest honour a country can
bestow on its citizens, the Order of
Trinidad and Tobago, was granted an
honorary doctorate from UWI.
Nanda Charles: Reading this, am
crying. So honoured to have worked
for over twenty something years in
one of his companies.
Truckers count losses
over cargo issues
Truckers picketed outside me-
dia houses in Port-of-Spain yes-
terday, including the Guardian
Building on St Vincent Street, to
highlight the inefficiencies of the
barge and ferry which replaced
the Super Fast Galicia on the in-
Gillian Walters: This is an old
story. Over 30 yrs Tobago suffering
with the same situation. Just get
used to it. We have never had a Gov-
erment with true vision or the ability
to problem solve. So it continues...
Astra Ramroop: From what the
truckers said, the Galicia was work-
ing just fine. What you have to ques-
tion is, who is gaining from this?
Melina Hutchinson: Well, from
what I heard, the govt only got two
weeks notice from the Galicia before
they stopped providing their service,
so the govt had to scramble to find a
replacement. The Minister said they
are working to get things up and run-
ning in a better way but these things
JC Beau Sejour: How come the
private sector is able to hide from
this is beyond me. Most of the cargo
transported between T&T belongs
to the big business people, the so-
called "Captains of industry". Why
are these rich people depending
on ordinary tax payers to foot their
transportation expense? Why they,
the Captains of industries, don't buy
their own cargo boat?
Bakr and wife win false
Fuad Abu Bakr, son of Ja-
maat-al-Muslimeen leader Yasin
Abu Bakr, and his wife, Kristy
Ramnarine-Bakr, yesterday won
their lawsuit against the State for
Vanessa Cabera Smith: These
police officers will cost the state a
lot. More to come...
Ozra Nellyne Peters: While I'm
not for law enforcement harassing
innocent law abiding citizens, su-
ing the State is like suing yourself.
It's time our police undergo serious
training, not only dealing with the
public, but be aware of the basic law
of the land as to avoid this.
Garcia Mary: So the State made
duplicate license plates then arrested
these ppl? That is wrong. It could
have happened to anyone, someone
unable to pay an attorney to sue.
Jonathan Patrick: It's about time
police officers be made to pay from
their pockets to avoid these kind of
Shanta Sankar: State just keep
giving them poor tax payer money
Sandra Maharaj: All our tax pay-
ers money going to people who sue
Cancer patients turned away
Chemotherapy sessions at the
San Fernando Oncology Centre
were cancelled and scores of des-
perately ill patients were turned
away yesterday because the
pharmacist who mixes the drugs
called in sick.
Dianne Thomas: Hmm... my
heart goes out to these people. Lord
Vidale Darren: No back up plan
Sassi Arjoonsingh: Our health
care system in Trinidad needs re-
vamping, it's in a terrible state. Don't
understand why persons who are
dependant on such services as crit-
ical as chemo had to go through this
ordeal. If what is reported is true, it's
just one challenge after another we
face in the health care system. If not
that maybe a machine break down,
no beds....When will it end?
Fazeeda Salamat: There was only
one! What's wrong with the medical
board or whoever has to employ? It's
people's lives we dealing with here.
Kisha Ramcharan Monti: Not
Gail Bell-Bonnette: In this day
Anna Lovelace: This break my
heart knowing what these patients
goin through already and now this.
Nikita Mahabir: There's only
one? No standby?
