Don't let the police kill me
who was diagnosed
with a mental illness
four years ago, was so
affected by the police
shooting of Daniel
Paul last Monday that
he is appealing to Min-
ister of National Secu-
rity Edmund Dillon to
set up a task force to
deal with outbursts
by mentally ill people.
Wolfe is an outpa-
tient of the Psychiatric
Clinic at the San Fer-
nando General Hospital
(SFGH). Paul, who was
also an outpatient of that
clinic, was shot dead by
officers of the Ste Made-
line Police Station who
responded to reports
that he had been pelting
stones at his neighbour's
car. It was the third fa-
tal police shooting of a
mentally ill patient this
Wolfe, 38, said he is
terrfied that if his illness
overcomes him and the
police are called in, he
might be killed.
"I am on three differ-
ent medications every
the clinic every month
for treatment," he said.
"I seeing the news and
all the mental people

have times I does can't
control myself and I does
all kind of madness. If
my sisters see me, they
might call the ambu-
lance and they will see
"But if you see me tak-
ing off my clothes and
cussing people, ent you
will call the police? And
what they will do me?
Ent they will kill me?"
Wolfe, who admit-
ted he has a chequered
past, has been before the
courts on 25 different
charges, including for
possession of marijuana
"When I get sick I
leave all them things
behind. I have a wife and
two children and I does
collect a little public as-
sistance and use that to
live off," he said.
He said he does not
want be shot dead dur-
ing one of his manic ep-
"If I getting on bad and
police shoot me, they
will say is just another
mad man we kill and I
would not even know
what I getting kill form
because I does can't
listen and understand
when I trip off.
"All I want is for the
Minister to really put
something like a task
force in place to deal
with mentally ill people,
like how they have a task
force for drugs and thing
. . . people who have
some training and will
not kill me if my medi-
cation not working," he
