Home' Trinidad and Tobago Guardian : June 30th 2017 Contents Lisa-Marie Mac Lean
I am blessed with a husband and two beautiful
children, almost 5-year-old Isabella and 1-year-old
Isaac. I have always had a desire to assist people in
any way possible, which lead to my degree in
Psychology and Communication Studies, from York
University in Toronto.
Since becoming a mother I was lucky enough to have
my sisters and cousins, who all had kids around the
same age, around me. I also found comfort in
meeting another mom and friend Abigail who has a
daughter the same age as Isabella. Meeting up with
her on a weekly basis became my 'get away' as we
were able to share our feelings and experiences and
simply just keep each other's company. Having this
support was indeed a blessing since I was able to
relate, share, socialise, learn and grow from all of
these amazing women.
I truly valued and appreciated the importance of
having a supportive system from other mothers
around, even more after learning of the struggles
Shaina faced from not having another mother close
by that she could relate to. The ability of knowing
that you are not alone and that we all face similar
challenges as mothers in itself is so comforting and
Although I love being a mom, I have been on my own
journey to discover who I am as an individual and
what my purpose is apart from being a mother and a
wife. When Shaina brought the concept of MOMS
Connect to me, it instantaneously resonated with me
and I knew it was something I definitely wanted to
be a part of. I felt as though I finally found an outlet
to balance the two things I love so much, being a
mother as well as helping others. My hopes are to
bring positivity, love and support to all moms across
the country through MOMS Connect TT.
Shaina and Lisa's History
We call each other sisters more than we do friends,
just to explain how close we really are. Seventeen
years ago we were assigned to sit next to each other
the very first day of secondary school and the rest is
now history. We've been truly blessed to have such
an incredible friendship, and to have such parallel
lives. We both shared similar experiences together,
secondary school, university abroad, getting married
and starting a family all around the same time.
Despite being different in many ways, we share the
same faith, morals and values, which we give credit
to for our long-term friendship being so strong. We
have a true sense of teamwork, bringing different
strengths and perspectives to the table. This
dynamic allows us to work so well together and be
successful at everything we do together.
• How in the world did you manage to land Kristina
It is actually simpler than you would think. After
coming up with the idea for ME-TIME we knew that
we wanted to feature a speaker who would allow
moms to leave the event feeling inspired, recharged
and entirely good about themselves. We've both
been following Kristina on our personal social media
pages and love to share her videos with our friends
and family. We love how great we felt after watching
them and knew that she would leave a positive
impact on our attendees. Taking a big leap of faith,
we decided to contact her. From the get go, Kristina
was very open and willing to make this speaking
arrangement work and after chatting back and forth
for some time we were able to secure a date that fit
both our schedules. Kristina is just as amazing and
down to earth as she seems from all her videos and
we cannot wait for mothers and women in general
who attend ME-TIME to be able to experience her
positivity and motivation in person.
• Is this your first major event under this umbrella?
Or any as a matter of fact?
This is our first major event geared specifically to
moms but it is not our first event. I have been
working in the event industry for almost nine years in
Toronto so I have been involved in planning
conferences, trade shows and weddings, allowing me
to gain vast knowledge and experience in the event
industry. Lisa has always been a born planner and a
naturally strategic individual when it comes to
business and coordination. Our different strengths
and experiences truly complement each other,
creating what we would consider to be a perfectly
Apart from MOMS Connect TT, Lisa and I run a small
wedding planning and rental business. We are both
perfectionists when it comes to planning events and
execution, very particular about even the smallest
detail, all aiming to create amazing experiences.
• What can we expect in the future?
Lots! We are in the works of developing our monthly
programs all aimed to empower, inspire and support
mothers. These are programs that we ourselves
deem essential and would love to experience since it
is geared to encourage moms to be their best. We
truly believe that moms will greatly benefit from
being involved in a community where mothers could
share and learn from one another.
MOMS Connect TT will serve as a platform to
connect mothers from all walks of life to different
experts who intend to address various topics, which
we believe are important to their overall well-being,
such as, health (physically & mentally), fitness, food,
beauty, child-care, organizational skills and much
Our goal is to attain a MOMS Connect TT space,
which will be the 'go to' spot for mothers. It will be a
space where mothers can connect, socialise, learn
and unwind, all whilst being empowered and inspired.
This MOMS Connect TT space will aim to build

community amongst mothers and to add more
support to their lives.
We also hope to include services that will afford
mothers the opportunity to attend our programs
such as providing supervised play for mothers who
don't have babysitters as well as transportation to
our space for moms who are without. We
understand the many challenges mothers may face
on a daily basis, therefore we hope to provide
additional support in order for them to attend our
programs and events.
MOMS Connect will also offer aid to mothers in need
through various fundraising initiatives and programs.
It is extremely important to us to give back and to be
there for mothers who are in need of support
financially, emotionally and physically. We intend on
putting a lot of focus in this area.
• What does MCTT hope to accomplish?
MOMS Connect TT hopes to support, inspire and
empower mothers here in Trinidad and Tobago by
building a community amongst mothers through our
events and programs. We would like to reduce the
amount of judgement, stereotype and negativity we
mothers face on a daily basis and create a more
positive and secure community, free from judgment
or ridicule. We would like moms to know that despite
all our differences we may have as individuals, in the
end the journey of motherhood is what truly
connects us all.
lives look like?
Our lives are definitely not what most may expect.
Although we consider ourselves blessed to be at
home with the kids, juggling a business
simultaneously is very challenging. Many times we
feel guilty of not being fully attentive to our kids
since we have to multitask most of the times.
We both start our days similarly since our girls are
now in kindergarten and we are at home with the
boys. It starts off with breakfast, organising the girls
and rushing to get them out the door. Most tasks are
interrupted since we have the little ones who are
extremely dependent, so that is diaper changes,
feedings and the occasional attention love-ups, all
whilst tidying up the house, laundry, replying to
emails and making calls. The night time is often our
most productive time, since the kids are in bed and it
is usually the only quiet time we get for the day.
• Any advice for a mom who wants to work from
home, around her families' schedule?
We won't lie, it is very difficult and challenging and
many times you will doubt yourself, but you can do it!
If you are passionate about your career, you will have
the drive to push through those difficult days that
come from juggling home, kids and work at the same
If you have the support of a partner or any other
family member or friend take them up on their offer
to help out. Take one day at a time and focus on
getting through as much as you can possible for that
day. Prioritise everything! Try making a TO-DO List of
what tasks you would like to accomplish in a day,
down to the smallest details, and cross them off as
you go. Some days you may not achieve as much as
you would have hoped since life gets in the way, but
try again the next day and then the day after that.
Another tip we find that motivates us is also writing
down all we have accomplished on a board or even a
piece of paper. This is for the moments that you feel
as though you haven't accomplished much. It will
serve as a great reminder of all your hard work and
the amazing job that you are doing!
