CAURA RIVER RESCUE
Over 20 people, including
an 11-month-old baby, had
to be ziplined across Pool 2 by
members of the Fire Service at
the Caura River, El Dorado, last
night, after they were stranded
for over five hours when the
river became swollen following
Michelle Mitchell: A group of
friends went to lime up at Lopinot
yesterday. It was blazing sun. It
was all calm and serene. It was
while digging the pit to cook that
in an instant the river level rose
in a swell. They smelled and saw
it simultaneously. Weren't even
aware of Don until they were en
route home, shortly thereafter.
It's no guarantee that these people
Kelifa Charles: Look at this
nonsense. I woulda rescue the
baby and leave the adults there.
Ent alyuh like to lime?! A few extra
hours won't hurt.
Patrice Lendore: So..nobody
thought of leaving as the rain
started? The lime so sweet? Poor
kids though. Kudos to the fire of-
Annie Hosein: When will people
learn to stop risking their lives and
Lisa D'Abreau: Smh ...... Thank
God everyone was OK. Good job
to the servicemen who also risked
their lives although they are
trained for this.
Alan Chang: People in this place
too happy yes... the parents of
that baby should be penalised for
carrying that child in this kind of
weather to a river lime.
Azard R Mohammed: This was
very simple---let them wait until
the water went down.
Damien Kissoondath: So them
didn't see those black clouds be-
Daniella Bissessar: Blessings
goes out to the Fire Officers, good
Bonnie Abdool: Father, cover
these fire offices in ur blood. Bless
each and everyone of them, Lord.
If was me they would have spent
de week there. Just the innocent
baby I was thinking bout, don't
know how some adults big and
Kimberly Ramdeen: I am sure
that knew when rain falling heavy
the river does "come down." I wit-
ness this for myself once and in a
split second the river was full. If it
wasn't for that baby they would be
spending the night there.
Melina Hutchinson: Despite
warnings of bad weather, these
people left their homes to go by
the river to cook duck. And criti-
cising the fire officers for not res-
cuing them quick enough. Allyuh
not only harden but ungrateful
Rodney Bruce Sookhansingh:
Are they idiots? All the weather
reports said bad weather but they
still went out there! Wow!
Rosesej Forteau: So those peo-
ple did not know that this is the
rainy season? They did not see the
rain setting up? They did not see
the river beginning to rise? Steups.
Then one man said they crossed
on their own and was even telling
the firemen how to do their job. So
why did they waste the officers'
time and call for help? People just
like sensation, yes. And taking a
baby into a situation of danger.
South hit by
Several communities in
South Trinidad were in-
undated with floods less than
three hours into a thunder-
Shyankaran Lalla: Nothing
changed and nothing will if the
authorities keep doing same things
over and over with the expectation
of different results.
Gerald Mejias: I wonder if peo-
ple building in low lands will go
back to the old days and build on
stilts and only use ground floor for
Oma Heeralal: It has a lot to do
with drainage as well---no where
for the water to go---all the flat
lands were mainly backfilled with
Zola Pereira: Who having the
last laugh but I'm sure not laugh-
ing at all? Wayne Kublalsingh.
after setting self,
lover on fire
A54-year-old Arouca man
was last night fighting for
his life at the Eric Williams
Medical Sciences Complex in
Mt Hope, after he was doused
with a flammable liquid and set
ablaze by his lover, who died
after the house they were in
went up in flames.
James Dennis: Wth, and things
got that bad and that's the best
solution? Come on people, tomor-
row might, might just be a better
Vanessa Sandy: A lot of ppl in
Trinidad; need anger therapy yes.
Beverly Fraser: Something
passing through. Pray everyone.
Georgous Lezlee: Too many
people are living with hate in their
hearts. Come on people where's
the love? Join hands and let's pray.
Elea Lendore: When are we ever
going to accept the fact that men-
tal illness in this country is real
and not a jokey matter?
Linda Rampersad: Wow at
that age! Ppl living with all kind
of problems yes, silently. Only
God could help our country, our
Sandra Maharaj: I thought wis-
dom comes with age.
Jlee Francois: Why called "lov-
er?" That is not love, Jesus is love.
Melina Hutchinson: There are
too many people who have uncon-
trollable anger issues in this coun-
try now. Maybe it's something in
the food they are eating.
Don't expect Parliament to
resolve the 53 unfinished
matters left in limbo by former
chief magistrate Marcia Ay-
ers-Caesar. The Government,
Attorney General and the Di-
rector of Public Prosecutions
will have to come up with a
Rajpath Jackpath: The only
thing that had could have been
done on this matter. It was a win
for Rowley the Government and
Kamla the opposition. Now the
PM has made clear to the CJ and
the DPP, the only way forward is
the CJ must resign. The ball is in
the CJ's court. On the other mat-
ters I did not understand one s---
and both of them seem to me to do
the same, only one set of old talk.
Clearly non items of importance
that was carded. Did the govern-
ment save face here or not?
Steve Changoor: Precedents are
set in law. So they have to be care-
ful to act in law.
Debbie Rajmani Seepersad:
So the Judiciary has no way for-
ward with the 53 matters and you
have not asked the CJ to resign or
initiated an investigation under
Section 137? Good luck finding a
way forward, Dr Rowley. Please
remember that while persons
remain incarcerated without due
process it is taxpayers money that
will be used to compensate these
