A Brazilian politician has accused left-wing
protesters of physically and verbally abusing
her wedding guests over her family's support
for President Michel Temer.
Maria Victoria Barros, 25, is a member of the state
assembly in Parana and daughter of Mr Temer's health
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the
church where the ceremony was taking place on Fri-
Pelted with eggs, she had to leave the church pro-
tected by riot police.
The lavish ceremony attracted the state's political
elite, including her father, Ricardo Barros, and her
mother, Cida Borghetti, Parana's deputy governor.
At least 30 members of the Brazilian Congress were
invited to travel from the capital Brasilia for the wed-
ding in the Parana state capital, Curitiba.
Demonstrators carried anti-government signs and
shouted slogans at Ms Barros, accusing her of being
a "coup plotter"
Footage posted on YouTube shows security guards
opening umbrellas to try to protect the bride and groom
as they left the Church of the Rosary.
A detachment of riot police was eventually called in
to protect the newly-weds and their guests.
The incident is another illustration of how split
and bitter Brazilian politics has become since the
impeachment last year of Mr Temer's predecessor,

HAMILTON---Outgoing Premier Michael Dunk-
ley has resigned as leader of the One Bermuda
Alliance (OBA), following the party's crushing
defeat at the hands of the opposition Progressive
Labour Party (PLP) in Tuesday's general election.
The OBA, which won the 2012 election by 19 seats to
17, slumped to a 24-12 defeat on Tuesday as it lost seven
seats, including that held by deputy leader and Finance
Minister Bob Richards, who subsequently announced
his retirement from politics after losing his Devonshire
East seat to union activist Christopher Famous.
OBA member Syllvan Richards confirmed Dunkely's
Asked yesterday if Dunkley's leadership of the party
was still tenable, Sylvan Richards told the Royal Ga-
zette newspaper: "Mr Dunkley has already resigned
as leader of the OBA."
He said that there had not yet been any internal
discussion about the future leadership of the party,
but those talks would take place soon.
When asked what he will do next, Bob Richards said:
"I don't know. But I am certainly going to retire from
politics. I'm more than old enough. This is the end of
the line for me. My public service is done."
"I'm hopeful that the new government will con-
tinue some of the fiscal policies that we have put in
place---they are critical for us moving forward. We'll
see what they do," said Richards, who also served in
the Senate in the late 1990s and mid-2000s. (CMC)
