slump to fourth
Tridents were bundled out for the
lowest total of this year's Caribbe-
an Premier League and the second
lowest ever, as they slumped to a
crushing 99-run defeat to Guyana
Amazon Warriors at Kensington
Oval on Tuesday night.
Chasing a competitive 159, the
star-studded home side capitulated for
59 off 13.4 overs, their fourth straight
defeat and the fifth in seven outings
The defeat left them fifth in the six-
team standings on four points, now four
points behind Amazon Warriors in the
race for the final playoff spot, with
three matches left in the preliminary
Tridents were reeling at 13 for five in
the fifth over after Man-of-the-Match
left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir ripped
through the top order to finish with the
amazing figures of five wickets for three
runs from four spectacular overs.
Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan
supported with three for 15 as Akeal
Hosein made 17 to be one of just three
batsmen in double figures and the only
one to pass 15.
Jason Mohammed had earlier top-
scored with 42 as Amazon Warriors,
sent in, rallied to 158 for eight off their
Assad Fudadin chipped in with 27,
new recruit Luke Ronchi of New Zea-
land struck 24 while Roshon Primus
belted a cameo 21.
Opener Tanvir (7) and Chadwick
Walton (20) perished cheaply to leave
the visitors on 30 for two in the fourth
over but Mohammed stepped up to add
momentum to the innings with a 35-
ball knock that included three fours
and two sixes.
He put on 29 for the third wicket with
Ronchi and then added a further 42 with
Fudadin for the fifth wicket after Ga-
janand Singh (1) lasted just four balls.
Mohammed eventually holed out to
mid-off in the 18th over off seamer Ravi
Rampaul but Primus belted two sixes
at the end to add precious runs.
Tridents started horribly when New
Zealander Kane Williamson slashed
Tanvir to third man in the first over to
depart without scoring with one run on
the board and Dwayne Smith followed
in the third over for two, controversially
adjudged caught behind off the same
bowler at six for two.
Imran Khan was caught in the deep
off seamer Roshon Primus for one in
the fourth over but it was Tanvir who
turned the game on its head in the fifth
He first removed England's Eoin Mor-
gan plumb lbw and off the very next
ball, had Kieron Pollard caught at the
wicket nibbling at an away-swinger.
Though the hat-trick was averted,
wickets continued to tumble as Rashid
Khan then made key strikes in the mid-
dle and lower order to ensure there was
no recovery. (CMC)
