Alfred dethrones Camacho
in Rudder Alexander classic
Clint Alfred emerged at the top as the Rudder Alexander
Golf Tournament returned after a five year hiatus. Alfred was
pushed to the limit to dethrone defending champion Richard
The battle between Alfred, Camacho and Jonathan Millen
was thrilling at the Chaguaramas Golf Course. T&T player,
Alfred, scored 143 to emerge victorious, taking a two shot lead
over Millen. Interestingly, Camacho held the lead from the first day, but he
was unable to hold off Alfred, whom through some excellent play was able to
stave off a late charge from Millen.
Professional golfers also hit the course over the weekend in a dazzling display.
Chris Richards topped the group, overcoming stiff competition from Anthony Benny
and Stephen Bishop. He held the lead from the first day and never looked back.
Seven ladies also played in the Rudder Alexander tournament. From day one,
the battle was between Emilie Ramsahai with a one shot lead over Tori Baptiste.
By the second day, she extended that lead with a seven shot victory over Baptiste,
who secured second place.
Across the other divisions, the first flight was won
by Phillip Subero with a score of 159. He was a for-
mer caddy, who now bossed the game. Subero held
off Dereck Chanardip from Brechin Castle and the
Chaguaramas Club captain, Curtis Moses. On a day
when the weather went from blistering hot to heavy
rain, he remained calm and composed to quietly march
to a seven shot victory. (RB)

on Play Go app
Football fans will have access to matches in this year's
Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) at their fin-
gertips through Digicel's Play Go app. At yesterday's
launch of the league at the Call Room of the National
Cycling Centre in Couva, Digicel's Marketing Manager
Lisa Giuseppi said they are in the business of making
meaningful contributions by connecting you to your
loved ones, and connecting you to entertainment in the
comfort of your homes or in the palm of your hands. As
such fans can download the app from their respective
store free of charge and tune in through Sportsmax.
Giuseppi said her company's partnership with the
SSFL is viewed as an investment in our people which
is why they eagerly accepted the opportunity three years
ago. "For us it exemplifies our ethos; giving back to the
communities were serve: investing in the future of this
twin island nation and nurturing and developing the
youth in sport from grass root to professional" Giuseppi
The league kicks off with a double header at the Ato
Boldon Stadium in Balmain Couva tomorrow (Friday), in
which last year's InterCol Champions Shiva Boys Hindu
College will be up against southern rival Naparima College
in the feature game at 5pm in the Premier Division. In the
opening match Carapichaima East Secondary will take on
Fatima College from 3pm.
Jamaican Sports Network Sportsmax is also bracing for
an exciting season, giving a promise that it will broadcast
21 matches of the Premier Division and the Intercol. Tanya
Lee, Head of Marketing at Sportsmax said her company will
also honour a commitment to air the Girls InterCol final live,
based on a request by Anthony Creed, the ex SSFL presi-
dent last year and because she believes in the development
of women in sports.
She said the SSFL has been a mainstay in their sports in-
ventory, to the point where it is the third largest investment in
sports. "Just to show how much of a mainstay this will be for
us, Sportsmax 's investment in high school sports is the third
largest monetary investment within our catalogue of sports
rights, bettered only by our investments in La Liga and the
NBA" Lee explained.
In their 10 years-plus of existence the cable channel has
benefited tremendously from T&T's involvement, as its sec-
ond market when it expanded beyond the shores of Jamaica
in 2007. Lee told a large gathering that included president of
the SSFL William Wallace, members from various sponsors
such as Coca Cola, First Citizens, Shell, executives of the SSFL,
student players from various schools, teachers and coaches
that some 1.3 million people from 25 countries in the Caribbean
will be viewing the SSFL premiership and intercol matches
in time to come.
