It would take an estimated $500,000 to renovate
the St Therese of Lisieux RC Church in Valencia.
To date, out of five annual fundraising events,
along with other year-round charity efforts, the
committee has only been able to raise $200,000.
Committee member and coordinator Leo
Thomas said the sixth annual fundraiser will
come off on November 4 with its anticipated
plant and flower show and concert and cultural
extravaganza, in which various groups and
individuals who consider themselves plant and
flower lovers, will participate.
The Cemetery Street, Valencia venue will be
transformed into a “Garden of Eden” along with
various booths including a medical booth where
free testing and medication will be conducted.
Thomas said the interior and parts of the
exterior of the of the church also known as the
Cathedral of Saint Theresa of the Little Flower, is
in great need of repair as the ceiling, flooring and
walls have all come undone as a result of wear
and tear over the years.
Asked if the church was receiving any
assistance from the Catholic Board, Thomas said
the committee had not asked for the board’s
help. But he explained each parish has the
responsibility of looking after itself, therefore it is
responsible for raising monies to be allocated to
the various needs of the parish.
Not only will there be flowers to gaze at, but
patrons who will attend the event for a very
small fee of $5 will enjoy parang, calypsoes,
eats and drinks and other cultural exhibits.
Thomas made certain to mention the presence of
calypsonian Johnny King will literally be felt as he
continues to support the annual event providing
entertainment. The committee is hoping to make
at least $100,000 from this 2017 flower show.
