Are you ready for aflood?

Floods are the leading cause of
disaster-related death in the
Caribbean, but since most can be
forecast, you should have time to
prepare. Your Red Cross urges you
to get ready. There are simple
steps you can take to help protect
your family from a flood.
Know your area's flood risk. If
unsure, call your Red Cross or
Emergency Management Agency.
If you are in a risk area, investigate
the feasibility of flood insurance.
Know the location of the main elec-
trical breaker and the gas and water
valves in your home and ensure you
have a clear path to easily access
them so that you can shut them off
When a Flood
Warning is issued:
Monitor the radio for weather
updates and evacuate immediately if
you are told to do so.
Move your furniture and valuables to
higher floors of your home or place
them high if possible.
Bring in all loose items from outside,
like garbage cans and yard furniture
for safe keeping.
Turn off the main electrical switch
and other utilities.
Place important documents and
valuables in plastic and store them
in a safe place.
Flood water dangers:
Do not walk through flowing water.
Just six inches of moving water can
knock you off your feet.
Never attempt to cross a swollen
stream, river or gully by foot or
vehicle. The force of these water-
ways can have deadly consequences.
If your vehicle stalls in rising water,
abandon it immediately and climb to
higher ground. A mere two feet of
water can float a large vehicle, even
After a flood:
Clean and dry everything water-
soaked. Flood waters can pick up
sewerage and chemicals from roads,
farms and factories. Spoiled food
and flooded medicines are health
hazards. When in doubt, throw them

Watch out for wild animals. Snakes
and centipedes that have been
flooded out of their homes may seek

The Office of the Integrity Commission notifies all persons in public life that they have an obliga-
tion to file their declarations of income, assets and liabilities and statements of registrable interests
for the year ended December 31, 2012 by
in accordance with Sections 11 (1) and
14 (1) of the Integrity in Public Life Act, which states:
Section 11 (1) "A person shall, within three months of becoming a person in public life,
complete and file with the Commission in the prescribed form, a declaration of his income,
assets and liabilities that exceed ten thousand dollars in value in respect of the previous
year and, thereafter, on 31st May in each succeeding year that he is a person in public life,
he shall file further declarations of his income, assets and liabilities that exceed ten thou-
sand dollars in value".
Section 14 (1) "A person in public life shall file with his declaration under section 11, an
additional statement of registrable interests in the prescribed form, which shall contain the
information required by sub-section (3)".
Persons in public life are defined as follows:
1 Members of the House of Representatives
2 Ministers of Government
3 Parliamentary Secretaries
4 Members of the Tobago House of Assembly
5 Members of Municipalities
6 Members of Local Government Authorities
8 Members of the Boards of all Statutory Bodies and State Enterprises, including those bodies
in which the State has a controlling interest
9 Permanent Secretaries and Chief Technical Officers
The prescribed forms can be obtained on line by accessing the Integrity Commission's website at
www.integritycommission.org.tt however, forms submitted electronically will not be accepted.
Forms may also be collected at the Office of the Integrity Commission, 4th Floor, UTC Financial
Centre, 82 Independence Square, Port of Spain.

Students of NorthGate College team celebrate after winning the RBC Young Leaders Great Debate
The competition is open to secondary school students in Forms Three and Four. Winning schools,
teachers and students are presented with cash awards and certificates. This year, the awards ceremony
will take place at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port-of-Spain on June 12.
