"Before the salon, I attended St Joseph's Con-
vent, Tobago, after which I worked at Price Is Right
Cosmetic as a sales representative," said Abby. I
then went to Trinidad to study cosmetology at the
Michael and Gloria Beauty Salon, and stayed there
approximately nine years of my life. Soon after I ac-
quired and develop my training and portfolio at
Beauty and Spa in Trincity."
In 2002, Abby got married and she and her hus-
band decided it was best to raise her family in To-
bago, which they inevitably did. "I worked at Le
Grand Courlan Resort and Spa for three years in
which I had asked for three raises within that time.
At the last request my supervisor sat me down and
explained that she was unable to grant my request
because the last raise was as far as they could have
gone, so I decided to move on."
Not long after Abby worked with Donna Smith at
Sass Beauty Salon, Fairmont Royal Pavilion in Bar-
bados for five years, further extending her craft and
falling deeper in love with the trade. Around this
time Abby kept going back and forth from Tobago
to Barbados and back again. "My husband reminded
me of my dream and stating that it wasn't neces-
sarily all about money, he also told me that I should
come back home and open my own business."
This was the stepping stone of her entrepreneur-
ial phase. "When I wanted to own my business it
was just about that." Little did she know that dress-
ing up and doing her hair and makeup as well as her
cousins and friends' as a teenager would lead her on
this path. "It wasn't so much to me about being a
beautician but just to be an entrepreneur, however
as fate would have it the skills that I possessed nav-
igated the drive and journey of owning my own
salon, Prestige Beauty Salon and Spa, which is lo-
cated #41 All Fields Road, Lowlands ."
The Salon that Abby controls has everything
minus one...the Jacuzzi. This salon is a place where
you can go to be pampered. The customer service is
excellent. The products use are of first class ratings
and the end products are more than anyone bar-
gains for. Her prices are competitive but her clientele
spaces are not, since she only goes by appointment
and deals with each individual one at a time.
From hair to make up to massages and treat-
ments, Prestige Salon is the leading Salon in mani-
cure, pedicure, facial and the list goes on. "My
clients are very important to me, most of them de-
pend on me and I am always there for them." Con-
sistency is one of the key reasons why the business
is so different from others and it is the key selling
point. "The ambience and furniture of the salon cou-
pled with my personality are also what my clients
Prestige Salon will also be having a Father's Day

All Abby dreamt about was having her own business. Even though she did not
know what it was, she just always felt the need to be her own boss. Now that
she has her own salon and accomplished her life long dream, she travelled
down memory lane, reminiscing on the different paths she took to become
who she is today.
