English League One football club, Wal-
sall will open its mini-tour of T&T with
a clash against Tobago Football Associ-
ation outfit, Stokely Vale at Plymouth
Recreation Ground, from 4pm today.
The Saddlers as Walsall are called land-
ed at the ANR Robinson Airport, Crown
Point, Tobago on Wednesday and after
being met by the Central FC greeting
party, was transported to its training
camp at Mt Irvine Bay.
Former Soca Warriors defender, Brent
Sancho, Managing Director of Central
FC, which is hosting Walsall and Kevin
Harrison also from Central FC, along with
Officials from the TFA also hosted a wel-
come reception for the English clubs hotel.
Yesterday, the visitors under the guid-
ance of coach Dean Smith held two train-
ing sessions at the match venue as the
players got acclimatised to the conditions
before their encounter with Stokely Vale
Looking ahead to the mini-tour Smith
said it was an honour for Walsall to be invited
to T&T considering the stature of clubs who have
previously visited, such as their neighbours, Aston
Villa, Tottenham and Manchester United.
Although we will enjoy our visit to T&T, there
won t be too much leisure time as we know the
importance of proper pre season preparation, and
we ll be making sacrifices to ensure we remained
For today s match five local players have been
invited to train and play with the visiting team
with Plymouth boy Rondell Winchester who plies
his trade in the Digicel Pro League for Central
FC along with Gem Gordon of 1976 FC Phoenix
and Brandon Joseph of St Clair s Coaching School.
Smith, talking to socawarriors.net, said that
there is already a bond between Walsall fans and
T&T because of former Walsall players, Clayton
Ince and Hector Sam.
"Clayton and Hector will always remain part
of the Walsall family. They are still very often
talked about, which is a credit to them."
The Walsall coach added " We will certainly
be looking at trialling some players whilst we are
in T&T. Who knows, we may have the same luck
as Aston Villa and discover the next Dwight
Meanwhile, prior to leaving England, kind-
hearted main club advertisers, CAT Communi-
cations Limited, donated a plethora of matchballs
for the Saddlers to distribute whilst on tour in
During the stay, Walsall will be visiting a number
of schools and communities, spreading the Walsall
"During our visits, we will be handing out var-
ious Walsall FC merchandise and now, thanks to
CAT Communications Ltd, we will also be able
to give away footballs.
"This is a project we wanted to be a part of,"
explained CAT s Technical Director, Craig Lang.
"It s an unprecedented tour for the club and,
when we heard of the good work being under-
taken, we wanted to play our part.
"The footballs will be put to great use and it s
satisfying to know that a small gesture from CAT
will play such a big part in the lives of children
The "Saddlers" as Walsall is known made the
trip from the West Midlands of England to T&T
ahead of their warm up matches against Leeds
United, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa before
