Former COP councillor Wasim
Daniel has jumped ship to join Jack
Warner s ILP party.
Daniel, the councillor for Petit Val-
ley/Cocorite which falls under the
Diego Martin Regional Corporation,
appeared on Jack Warner s platform
at Frederick Settlement, Caroni, on
Friday night flashing a brown envelope
that he said contained his resignation
papers from the COP.
Daniel was introduced to the audi-
ence by Warner as one of the "green
surprises" for the night. Daniel said
he was fed up of the neglect of the
people of Diego Martin. He praised
Warner for the tremendous work done
during the flooding disaster last year.
Daniel later said in an interview
that he had not discussed the matter
with the COP or its leadership. He
said he decided it was time for him
to move on. "I feel hurt and disre-
spected as a member of the COP, take

Maharaj said he would ten-
der his resignation forthwith
if Warner can validate claims
made recently that throngs of
workers from his ministry, paid
by taxpayers, are working in
Ameen s UNC campaign office.
He said Warner, the interim
leader of the Independent Lib-
eral Party was desperate and
was not speaking the truth.
"I am willing to resign
immediately and even appear
before a commission to defend
myself. There are no public
officers working there."
Maharaj said what Warner
has been seeing "is my per-
sonal assistant who is the
youth officer of the UNC, who
is involved in the campaign.

the July 29 by-election.
Maharaj said people are being
asked to support Warner and there
is no party structure. "There is a
leader. Who is the deputy political
leader? Is Ms Indra Maharaj-
Jaggessar, Mr Warner s deputy?
People must ask these questions.
Who is the party s treasurer, chair-
man and executive?"
Maharaj said Warner has
called for a debate with Ameen,
but he has failed to appear before
several football inquiries to clear
his own name. "He lacks the
moral authority to ask anyone
to debate him."
Maharaj accused Warner of
using state resources to create a
dependency syndrome. He said
Warner distributed several state
grants under the pretext that it
was coming from his own funds.
"He knew what he was doing
for the past two years. Using and
abusing the Government...to make

Warner yesterday refused to
answer Maharaj s questions.
"I will not answer Devant
Maharaj on what he has said about
the ILP, our party. When Devant
Maharaj was a racial nobody, I
took him from nowhere and gave
him the post of chairman and I
built him up. Let him attack me,
let him organise blogs against me.
I say to Devant Maharaj that all
of this will pass."
Warner said the ILP was gaining
grounds, and over 30,000 people
have joined the party. (SB)

Warner said Balkaran was

As a law student, Maharaj said
Balkaran was assigned to the

Maharaj said he was not aware
of Balkaran s political affiliation.
"I don t know if she has

Maharaj said Balkaran was "a

out his offering and left the stage as
quickly as he appeared, waving to
Warner and the head table on his exit.
De Fosto appeared in a darker shade
of green and was accompanied by
dancers to sing his offering of Jack
the Conqueror. De Fosto shook Warn-
er s hand as fireworks erupted in the
night s sky.
