Home' Trinidad and Tobago Guardian : July 30th 2013 Contents Guaya United, the recently promoted Eastern
Counties Football Association league champion,
stopped previous league leader Westside Superstarz
in its tracks, when the little known club soared to
a joint-top position with a 4-2 win in match-day
four in the blink/bmobile National Super League
(NSL), in Guayaguayare, on Sunday.
The top-of-the-table clash was witnessed by
national head coach Stephen Hart and the T&T Foot-
ball Association (TTFA) general secretary Sheldon
Westside, which prior to Sunday s loss scored 11
goals in three matches, continued its fine goalscoring
form, but the team s goals were mere consolation as
the Westmoorings-based club only managed to get
on the scoresheet after trailing 3-0.
Guaya scored within 11 minutes through Russell
Alfred, before Carlon Hughes (43rd) and Ryan Stewart
(45th minute penalty) scored late in the first period
to close off the half with an unassailable lead, much
to the delight of the strong home support.
Westside finally got a response in the 54th through
Kevon Piper, but it took less than five minutes for
Guaya to put the match to rest with its fourth goal
and Stewart s second. The Superstars got one more
consolation in the 67th minute through Akeem Ash.
The result saw Guaya leap over Westside, for first
place joint with Club Sando, which also got its third
win in four matches at the expense of Tobago s Stokely
Vale FC. Teba McKnight scored a goal in either half
for the San Fernando club, before Krishawn Joseph
pulled one back with a 73rd minute penalty.
Another result which perhaps raised some eyebrows
was WASA FC s 1-1 draw away from bottom-of-the-
table Bethel United. The latter, another newly-pro-
moted club, has failed to record a point after two
matches played, giving WASA, the defending league
champion an opportunity to record its first win of
the campaign. It was not to be for the "Water Boys"
as Andell Noray s goal on the hour mark was cancelled
out by a Vernon Wilson strike for Bethel United in
the 72nd minute. After four matches, WASA FC has
three draws and a loss. Siparia Spurs picked up its
first win, in style, when the club thrashed new bot-
tom-placed club FC Santa Rosa 5-1.
Action is set to continue on Thursday with a full
round of matches. The feature match of the day will
see WASA host Westside Superstarz, with both clubs
seeking to return to winning ways. The match, as
with all others will kick off at 4 pm. Defence Force
