There's a lot to eat in the city that never
sleeps. In St James, a tasty roti is guaranteed.
There's Ali's, Pat Raj and the lady that makes
and sells at night on the sidewalk. The grilled
meat from Sweet Lanyap is devilishly good and
worth the wait in line.
Naturally, where ever people assemble in large
numbers certain food joints are expected to exist.
These include the timeless and consistent taste of
Kentucky Fried Chicken, Royal Castle, newcomer
and game changer to the fried chicken world, Japs
(don't know if the guy on the box is Hugo Chavez,
maybe, maybe not) Burger King and of course Sub-
way. So, the options are there, eat!
The insomniac West-
ern Main Road runs
through the centre of
the mini-city of St.
James, Cocorite and Ch-
aguaramas. This hub of
commercial activity is
lined with many busi-
nesses, which have be-
come household names

You may remember 'Ju-C
corner' -- this name, given
to Corner Western Main
Road and Long Circular
Road, was once home to
the Ju-C soft drink fac-
tory a long time ago;
hence the epithet. The
mascot for the soft drink
was a great guerilla mar-
keting tactic back then,
and can still be remem-
bered today -- a picture of
a little boy's head, as he
cheerfully winks and licks
his upper lip in glee to
promote the delicious-
ness of Ju-C. Back in the
day, since the Independ-
ence Parade would pass
here en route, Trinidadi-
ans would tell their
friends, "meet me by Ju-C
corner to see the parade".
When the Courts store
replaced the factory, it
quickly became known as
Today, a wide range of

Chicken and other meat--grilled to perfection added to
creamy potato salad or crispy French fries then covered
in garlic and pepper sauce is always a good idea.
If the line is long the punch is good...the line is long. Whether
it's a regular or the works it hits the spot. Essentially, it's a
huge cup of tasty energy that's worth every cent.
Standing out in the doubles game requires a solid
recipe and signature sauces. These guys have it cov-
ered and at the price it's still a cost effective meal.
Same family, same recipe and same tasty
roti since its inception.
MOMS (SIDEWALK ROTI)
You can actually taste the per-
fect recipe. Mom serves it up
with calm confidence because
she knows it's good. And get-
ting a roti hot off the tawah is
always a plus.
These guys get pork right. Whether it's jerk or BBQ, it's good
eating and it doesn't hurt to know a beer is a just a shot away
at Smokey and Bunty's.
