ZURICH---Cape Verde will not
be reinstated in the World Cup
after FIFA dismissed the tiny
African nation s appeal in an
ineligible player case.
FIFA says it informed the
Cape Verdean Football Associ-
ation yesterday of the ruling
which confirms Tunisia s place
in the qualifying playoffs.
Tunisia will face Cameroon
in a two-leg playoff on October
11 and November 15.
Cape Verde beat Tunisia 2--0
in a decisive group match last
month, but selected defender

a red card in a previous qualifier.

Bendtner, the Danish forward
who had been suspended from
the national side for drunk driv-
ing incident, is back for Den-
mark s two last World Cup qual-
ifiers against Italy and Malta.
Denmark coach Morten Olsen
says he was "not in doubt" to
take Bendtner back after seeing
him last week make his first start
for Arsenal since August 2011.
Bendtner was sent away from
the Danish side in November
after driving with a blood-alco-
hol content of 1.75. He eventually
was fined and had his driver s

TURIN---Galatasaray s new coach Roberto Mancini
knows that facing Juventus in the Champions
League just two days after taking charge of the
Turkish team is going to be tough, but is hoping
that his Italian background will help.
Mancini was only confirmed as Fatih Terim s
replacement on Monday and there could not be many
tougher first matches than a trip to Turin to face the
two-time Italian champions in Europe s elite club
"It will be quite strange because I met the team
yesterday for the first time," Mancini said yesterday.
"I don t have a magic wand, but we have a good
team so I hope we can have a good game. It will be
very difficult because we re meeting a great team,
which had another great year.
"If I d have wanted a comfortable game I d have
stayed at home on the couch---which is very com-
fortable. But this is work and that s whats good
about football. The fact that the first game is a Cham-
pions League match and against Juventus is a great
Mancini spent almost his entire playing and man-
agerial career in Italy, with Fiorentina, Lazio and Inter
Milan, before joining Manchester City in 2009.
He won three consecutive Serie A titles with Inter
and hopes his knowledge of Italian football will go
some way to offsetting the unfamiliarity with his
"Obviously it s a handicap that I ve only been with
the squad a day," the Italian added. "But I think in
this case it s a group of players that know each other,
that have been playing together for a while, so I m
lucky. And in football luck counts a lot so we ll see
what happens. The advantage is that I know Juve
Galatasaray reached the quarterfinals of last year s
competition, where it memorably beat Real Madrid
3--2 in the second leg in Istanbul, but went out 5--3
However, it had a disastrous opening match this
season, losing 6--1 at home to Real Madrid.
"We need to forget about the match against Real
Madrid," Mancini said. "We have to think about the
future starting tomorrow.
The match will see Mancini reunited with current
Juventus striker Carlos Tevez, with whom he had a
major fallout with when the Argentine refused to
come on as a substitute in a Champions League
match at Bayern Munich in September 2011.
After being told by Mancini that he d never play
for City again, Tevez went on unauthorised leave to
Argentina and only returned to Manchester with
three months to go that season after failing to secure
a move away. (AP)
