Linda and Gaylord Kelshall,
owners of the Chaguaramas Mil-
itary Museum, which is currently
under threat of eviction, have
received no reply despite sending
three letters to the Chaguaramas
Development Authority (CDA)
and Minister of Planning and
Sustainable Development Bhoe
Tewarie in the past few weeks.
The museum launches its
annual Military Week on Tues-
day. The couple, who have run
the museum for 23 years, wrote
to CDA chairman Danny Solomon
to invite him to attend. They also
invited Tewarie. As yet, their invi-
tations have received no response.
There has been no further com-
munication from the CDA, which
served a letter warning the muse-
um of its impending eviction,
with a cut-off date of October 6.
Timothy Hamel-Smith, Presi-
dent of the Senate, will speak at
the launch of the Military Week,
which will be attended by WWII
veterans and dignitaries.
Speaking to the T&T Guardian
by telephone, Kelshall, a decorated
war hero, described the threat of
eviction as "a sword hanging over
He said the CDA "has to go to
court to get an eviction order. If
that is served, we get thrown out,
unless we are able to block it."
He said there had been no men-
tion of compensation from the
CDA, just the offer of another
plot of land in overgrown bush
by the edge of a military firing
Kelshall said President Anthony
Carmona had spoken in support
of the museum at an army parade
Kelshall has suffered from ill
health and sounded short of
breath during a brief telephone
interview. He described his cur-
rent state as "very frail."
