Home' Trinidad and Tobago Guardian : November 7th 2013 Contents The T&T Chamber will host its
annual gala Business Hall of
Fame induction ceremony on
November 16, 2013, at the
Hyatt Regency Trinidad hotel
The Business Hall of Fame, the first of its
kind in T&T, was pioneered by the chamber
in 2005, and is today one of the most pres-
tigious events for the country s business com-
munity. By this premier event, the chamber
each year honours and pays tribute to a max-
imum of three nationals who have made out-
standing contributions to business in T&T.
Inductees are recognised for their contri-
butions in several spheres of business, and
each has a story of enterprise, hard work and
success, and of helping to reshape and improve
the business environment in the country.
The night of November 16 promises to be
one of celebration and appreciation of the
business icons who will be inducted into the
Hall of Fame.
This year s inductees will be Carlton Mack
(posthumously), Harry Sooknarine (posthu-
mously) and Victor Mouttet. They were the
visionaries who saw the opportunity to change
the business landscape of T&T, and several
of our largest and most successful companies
exist today because of them.
Carlton Mack, founder of one of south
Trinidad s institutions, so to speak, JTA Super-
markets, truly epitomises the attributes of this
He came to Trinidad from Hong Kong and
through hard work and determination, built
a very successful supermarket and real estate
business that he was able to expand, with his
family s assistance, over the years.
In every sense---from business to commu-
nity---Carlton K Mack has left an indelible
mark in T&T.
Harry Sooknarine, a man of fierce deter-
mination, dedicated his life to finding specific
product needs and filling them -- in the process
building businesses that are household names
today. He established a prosperous packaging
and printing company and later successfully
started a dry concrete mix manufacturing
company, both of which helped to revolutionise
these industries in T&T.
His leadership in business and generosity
of time and investment into the community
have not gone unnoticed; and this award recog-
nises his stellar career as an entrepreneur.
Victor Mouttet has been, and continues to
be recognised as a leader in the T&T com-
munity. His business acumen is well known,
and he served as an independent senator as
well as holding directorships of several boards.
His leadership in the Senate, charitable
organisations and within the manufacturing
and distribution industries has been instru-
mental in strengthening the social and eco-
nomic fabric of T&T; and this award recognises
his continued efforts to build a stronger nation.
This year s event is once again being spon-
sored by exclusive Platinum investor First Cit-
izens banking group, whose generosity since
inception has made it possible to honour our
local business icons. This year we are also
welcoming exclusive Diamond sponsor Colum-
bus Communications and Gem sponsors Shell
Trinidad and Atlantic (formerly Atlantic LNG).
There are also lessons to be learned from
the story of our inductees.
Though 2013 showed modest growth, it has
nevertheless been a challenging year for the
business community, continuing the trend of
the last few years. But to put us firmly on a
growth path, the country needs more entre-
preneurs, men and women of the unflinching
determination and faith, such as our inductees
displayed; persons who are able to innovate
and constantly reinvent their approaches in
order create the next new wave of growth.
Luckily, our country is blessed with creative
and innovative people.
Although a challenge remains with regard
to harnessing these talents for economic devel-
opment and profit, we are certain the resilient
people of T&T will produce many more that
are deserving of being inducted into the Busi-
ness Hall of Fame.
On November 16, from 5 pm to 9 pm, our
2013 inductees will join the ranks of 20 other
illustrious businesspersons who were previously
inducted, and we will tell the interesting and
inspiring stories of their climb to success.
We invite all register via our Web site at:
www.chamber.org.tt, to join us for this gala
