Home' Trinidad and Tobago Guardian : November 13th 2013 Contents Eleven women representing countries from
North and South America and the Caribbean will
compete in the Miss Plus Caribbean Universe
2013 pageant on November 17 at the Cascadia
Hotel, St Anns. Originally scheduled for November
10, the pageant was postponed due to industrial
action by Liat which affected the delegates travel
A release from the organisers said delegates will
be judged in categories of swimwear, evening wear,
talent and intelligence. The aim of the pageant is
to develop the self-esteem and confidence in young
women across the Caribbean while shining spotlight
on the burgeoning plus-size fashion market.
The organisers of Miss Plus Universe said research
has confirmed that the majority of Caribbean
women are full-figured and as such, this provides
exciting opportunities for T&T s fashion industry
as it seeks to identify viable niche markets for the
Made-in-T&T fashion brand.
Founder and executive director Pearl Williams
presented the inaugural pageant in Barbados last
year where Sonja Pollonais, Miss T&T walked away
with the crown. This encouraged Williams to write
to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar about
staging the second edition in Trinidad. As a result,
the proposal was forwarded to the Ministry of the
Arts & Multiculturalism which is now one of event s
Coco Velvet International Fashion Management
will handle creative direction and Lynette Pennie
is in charge of stage management. Judges include
fashion luminaries Jacqui Koon-How, Heather Jones,
Pat Garcia, Christian Boucaud, Kevin Little, Terry
Bovon and Mr T&T Carlon Richardson. Entertain-
ment will be provided by recording artistes Kevin
Little and OC.
Miss Plus Caribbean Universe Beauty Pageant
2013 will be transmitted live by CMC Television
and COMSEE TV to viewers around the region.
Tickets for the pageant cost $200. For more infor-
mation, visit Miss Plus Caribbean Universe on face-
