Four young budding artists were recog-
nised by the ANSA McAL Group of Com-
panies on Tuesday for their creative por-
trayal of a "Trini Christmas."
The Christmas Artwork Competition,
organised by the group for a second year,
invited employees children and their relatives
to submit drawings representative of Christ-
mas in T&T.
Second place winner Dunnecia Moore, 17,
combined the universal with some local, as
she drew a jolly Santa Claus on the beach
playing T&T s national instrument, the steel-
"The idea just hit me," the Bishop Anstey
High School, Port-of-Spain, student said.
She took one week to complete the piece.
She plans to submit three pieces next year
and has been using her talent to add to her
savings as she regularly sells her artwork to
supportive family members.
She said art competitions like that were
necessary since they would encourage
young artists who were yet to be discov-
"It also offers an avenue for youth to
express themselves," she added.
Group chairman and chief executive Nor-
man Sabga said with the proliferation of
electronic games and devices, it was impor-
tant for children to participate in activities
outside of that and develop other talents.
"I want to congratulate you on achieving
this. I am proud of you and your parents."
The mother of each winner also was
present and each received a bouquet for
supporting and encouraging their children.
Bjorn Stodart, the first-round judge and
team lead of Creative at Pepper Advertising
said each winner s presentation combined
to represent something special about
Christmas in T&T.
"The four pieces came together to
encompass everything we know and love
at Christmas time," he said at the prize-

Jamila George, 14, came in third with a
drawing of a Christmas party in progress,
while a special prize was given to Khaleel
Britto, 13, for drawing a table laden with
food typically eaten at Christmas time.
Khaleel said his mom Allisia Blake-Britto
pushed him to participate and his favourite
dish for the season was ham, which was
prominently displayed in his drawing.
"He like his belly, so I thought it was
right he should do a kitchen table with
food," she laughed.
The final round judge for the competition
was designer Brian MacFarlane.

Adam Augier on his (Sabga's) arrival at the National Library, Port-of-Spain, for the launch
of Augier's book, titled Navel String, yesterday. At centre is Maria Superville Neilson,
