If there ever was a
child who could
bounce back it would
have to be my Adyan.
Struggling from the womb - damaged placenta
at two months and severe reeclampsia resulting
in emergency c-section at twenty nine weeks
11 years ago my son was delivered weighting 775
grams with the doctors in neonatal intensive care
San Fernando General Hospital giving him a two
percent chance of survival.
Growing up, he had delayed development so
while other children enjoyed hitting their mile
stones - he was so far back. Adyan does not let
that keep him down for he is the most pleasant,
polite, loving, caring, friendly child any parent
could ever ask for.
For he taught us how to have faith, how to be a
family, how to be thankful for small silly things,
how to forgive others and how to look for the
rainbow through the rain.
Since then he has had silent seizures and
became visually impaired. This year he lost the
remaining vision due to Viterous Hemorrhage and
had to have yet another surgery to correct it. All
this time he could not see, he never complained
not once and he never allowed it to break his
spirit. Adyan is a child who sees only good in
He is someone who brightens your day in just two
minutes of meeting him; he is someone who
compliments you and he know just what to say to
Having a child like Adyan has taught me that this
world is very difficult with lots of obstacles and not
only children but adults go out of their way to be
mean to you or put you down and even if that is
what you get - it does not have to be something
you put out. He inspires me to be more than just
a mother but a fighter with a cause and to stand
up to people in authority, he has taught me that
life is much more than having material things.
When I feel like giving up, I just have to look at
him. For he is special and with that comes a
whole lot of walls to climb over to be accepted
