Home' Trinidad and Tobago Guardian : December 28th 2013 Contents When you look at what is before us and look at the
men who are performing well, I am seeing Davis
written all over them.
Davis was a former West Indies opening batsman
and played just four Test matches and scored three
half centuries---a performance that would have earned
him the title Sir in the current West Indies set up.
I have written it many times before---in my humble
opinion, Bryan Davis is the best coach we have in
T&T and probably the West Indies.
He has done work with guys like Keiron Pollard,
the Bravo brothers, Sunil Narine, Fidel Edwards,
Dwayne Smith and a host of others. In the case of
Edwards and Smith, he took them in at Queen s
Park to play in the domestic cricket league here and
at the time when
they were struggling
with their game.
He worked with
them, and Edwards
and Smith were
right back into the
West Indies cricket
team. Davis knows
the game of cricket
and that is it. I don t
know how far ahead
he has reached with
the latest technolo-
gy. I don t know if
he is on facebook or
knows cricket and
he knows how to
teach it. It makes no sense that you have all the
knowledge about the game and the latest technology
but cannot transfer it.
Davis has worked at Queen s Park, the most suc-
cessful cricket club in the Caribbean and has supplied
many Test cricketers to the West Indies team.
These days the talk I am hearing is that Davis is
too hard a task master to be able to get the best out
of players. I was told that he has to understand that
in a changing world, the hard task master days are
over. While I agree that the youths of today have
to be handled differently, I think that the Davis way
still has value and this is what is lacking amongst
The man has instilled loyalty in his players to the
point that Pollard, Bravo and Narine could be halfway
across the world but are suited up once they know
that Queen s Park is playing. He has built this up
because of trust, and the fact that the players respect
I think the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB)
should seek his services to work closely with the
man charged with development Richard Pybus. Here
is a situation where Davis can work together with
Pybus and coach Ottis Gibson and you are coming
from different angles to attack your problems.
It frustrates me that while we continue to seek
foreign help, we have men like Davis with all this
knowledge sitting here in the sun. We need to get
him involved in the game. We cannot have this enor-
mous talent in Davis and not tap into it.
I am also making a call to the T&T Cricket Board
(TTCB) to bring Davis into their system. We need
him working with as many cricketers as we can.
Even if he is not up to the rigours of everyday
coaching, he must be brought on board as a coaching
consultant or someone you can help build meaning
development programmes. The man s record at
Queen s Park and with young players speaks for
So while we sit and hope that the West Indies
team brings better results in the ODI series against
the New Zealanders, I want you to keep a keen eye
out for Davis players on the team---skipper Dwayne
Bravo, Darren Bravo and Sunil Narine.
When you see them play, contact me and let me
know, whether you agree or disagree with me on
the points made above.

"Changing the way we interact with people!"
With the current mess that is West Indies cricket,
I cannot help but think that we must go back before
we move forward.
Recently, while looking on at the West Indies per-
formance in New Zealand I remembered Joey Carew
and Bryan Davis. While Joey is not here to see what
is going on and may God bless his soul, Bryan Davis
is still with us, as young as ever---well at least he
thinks so---and it must be painful for him.
I could well imagine what Joey would have said
looking at the West Indies batting in the second
innings of the final Test at Dunedin. I assure you
he would have had some choice words for the guys.
The quality is not there anymore, save for a few.
Bryan Davis, put a hand
