SEVILLE---Real Betis has signed former Real Madrid
goalkeeper Antonio Adan as it tries to avoid relegation
in the Spanish league.
Adan had trained for two days with his new team
mates before he was presented on Friday following
the completion on his move from Italian club Cagliari.
The 26-year-old played sparingly for Madrid last
season, with ex-manager Jose Mourinho starting him
instead of Iker Casillas. However, after the arrival of
Diego Lopez, Adan slipped down the pecking order
and left for Italy in the summer.
Betis is in last place and winless in its last 14 games.
It recently hired Gabriel Calderon as its third coach
of the season with the Argentine replacing the fired
Juan Carlos Garrido.
Lukaku out "weeks
rather than months"
LIVERPOOL---Everton manager Roberto Martinez
says striker Romelu Lukaku will be back to action
earlier than expected after avoiding a serious ankle
injury in a collision with a teammate.
Lukaku, who was carried off on a stretcher during
Everton s 4-0 loss at Liverpool in Tuesday night s
Merseyside derby, is likely to be out "weeks rather
than months," Martinez said.
Lukaku, who has scored nine goals in 20 matches
since joining from Chelsea on loan last summer, collided
with teammate Gareth Barry as they vainly tried to
prevent Steven Gerrard from opening the scoring.
Martinez said "there is no ligament damage and the
injury is not as bad as we first thought."

LILLE---Lille has signed right back Sebastien Corchia
from rival French first division club Sochaux on a
four-and-a-half year contract.
Lille announced the transfer on its website yesterday
without disclosing any financial details.
The 23-year-old Corchia is known as an attack-
minded defender and has been capped by France 25
times at under-21 level.
Coach Rene Girard said "we needed someone at the
back at all costs to strengthen our squad and to be
competitive until the end after Franck Beria s injury."
Beria is expected to be out for another two months
with a shoulder injury.
Lille is in third place in Ligue 1 and fighting for a
Champions League place, four points ahead of fourth-
