Fifteen year-old Sachin Kumar continued his
consistent fine play to win the 107th T&T Open
played at the picturesque St Andrews Golf Course
in Moka, Maraval on Sunday. Kumar became the
youngest ever winner of the Open surpassing Ben
Martin, Stephen Ames, Alan Mew and Chris Harries,
all of whom were under 17 when they won.
He had rounds of 73,72,71 and 75 for a total of 291
three over par.
In second place in the championship flight was
Clint Alfred who had a total of even par 300, Adrian
Norford of St Kitts finished in third place on 302,
with Deryck Gonsalves and Wan Ju Lee tied for fourth
with a total of 304.
The first flight winner Sol Joanni of the Leewards
GC in Tobago continued his dominance of his flight
even though he shot his worst score of the tournament
an 80 on the day. His four day scores of 71, 76, 69
(the lowest score of the tournament) and 80 for 296
was the second lowest total in the tournament. Omesh
Dinath finished in second place with his total of 327
and teenagers Jonathan Mitchell and Ryan Peters
ended up tied third.
In the seniors division Dave Rajkumar convincingly
won with a four-day total of 300 strokes with his
79 today being his worst score following his first
three-day scores of 76, 71 and 74. In second place
with a total of 308 was Richard Camacho with Reynold
Deonath a further nine strokes behind in third place.
In the Super Seniors flight Tyrone Leong stormed
away to a convincing eight stroke win shooting a
fine 75 to finish with a total of 309. Monty Chapman,
who started one stroke behind had a bad day and
shot 82 but still managed to finish second. In third
place was Stephen Attin on a total of 322.
Defending Digicel T&T Pro League
champions Defence Force continued its
climb up the nine-team table with a second
win in four days, 1--0 over fourth-placed
Point Fortin Civic FC at the Ato Boldon
Stadium, Couva on Sunday night.
The lone goal came in the 34th minute
through defender Glynn Franklyn who was
later red carded.
With the win, Defence Force improved
to 26 points from 14 matches in fifth spot,
while Point Fortin, which had its eight-
match unbeaten run snapped, stayed fourth
with 29, three behind joint second placed
Central FC and North East Stars while lead-
ers DirecTV W Connection has 37 from 17.
From early as the seventh minute Point
Fortin s 22-year-old striker and league top
scorer Marcus Joseph threatened to add to
his 12 goals, however his blast crashed off
the base of the right upright, and from the
rebound, team-mate Andre Toussaint struck
the opposite post.
Defence Force, despite being forced back
also had multiple tries at goal, beginning
with a left footed volley by defensive mid-
fielder Dave Long ten minutes into the
match, which forced a save out of goalkeeper
Phillip s goal also came under threat in
the 24th minute, when a blast from distance
by Josimar Belgrave sizzled inches over-bar,
and seconds later an evenly powerful crack
from the top of the six yard area left the
Civic goalie temporarily winded after getting
his body in the way.
