"We removed from you your
burden which crushed your
back and exalted for you, your
eminence." 94:2 6
Abu Bakr's and Peter's reac on
to the death of each Prophet
was an indica on of giving up
the material for the spiritual.
The physical body will someday
die. Accept that! The spiritual
self created in the image of Di
vine a ributes never dies. Allah
is Ever living and does not die.
Violence to another human be
ing can never be the ransom for
the salva on from my sin.
Jesus' death is a day of peace
not a day of violence.
"Peace on me the day I was
born, and the day I die, and the
day I am raised to life." 19:33
Peace can be obtained by ac
cep ng the oneness of God.
That is the teaching of Jesus.
"I taught them nothing but
what You ordered me: Serve
Allah, my Nurturer and your
Nurturer; and I was an overseer
of them so long as I was among
them, but when You brought
about my death, You were the
Observer over them." 5:117
"Such is Jesus son of Mary --- a
ma er of truth about which
they are uncertain." 19:34
To study the Qur'an with an
open mind is not to dispel the
teachings of Jesus but to deep
en our understanding of them.
If religious understanding can
not bring us closer to each oth
er. How can it bring us closer
Muslims revere Jesus as a
prophet of God giving the good
news (Gospel) of the advent of
the Prophet Muhammad, peace
be upon them both. "Jesus, son
of Mary, said: O Children of Is
rael, I am indeed the Messenger
of Allah to you, . . . giving the
good news of a Messenger. He
comes a er me. His name is
Ahmad (the other name of Mu
hammad)." The Qur'an 61:6.
The crucifixion of Christ is an
event that did occur as men
oned in the Qur'an. "Their ex
pressed mo ve: We have curs
ed the Messiah, Jesus, son of
Mary, the Messenger of Allah.
They neither weakened his spir
itual impact nor blighted him by
crucifixion." The Qur'an 4:157
Jesus' crucifixion from the
Chris an and Muslim view
points appears as two diver
gent concepts of the Divine
Presence in the human being.
But an examina on of both
tradi ons brings us closer to a
common understanding of the
nature of the Divine Being.
A er Muhammad's death, Abu
Bakr sermonized : "O people,
whosoever worshipped Mu
hammad, behold! Muhammad
is indeed dead. But whosoever
worshipped Allah, behold! Al
lah is Alive, and will never die."
He then recited the verse about
Muhammad 3:144 which is
iden cal to the verse about
Jesus 5:75 "Dead indeed are all
messengers before him."
As Muhammad's message was
certain, so was his death.
Peter's denial of Christ before
the crucifixion was an a rma
on that the Kingdom of God
lies within us! The Kingdom of
God within man is not incar
nate in only one person. By
idolizing the Jesus outside we
miss the Kingdom within. Jesus
is the way to the Kingdom not
the Kingdom itself. The King
dom is Allah's not Jesus' (5: 17).
Peter's denial was therefore
the right way to let Jesus go, to
let him die. But it was not nec
essary for Jesus to physically
die. The denial before the cru
cifixion shows that Jesus was
already dead to Peter for Peter
to be alive with God. As Jesus'
message was in parable, so was
his death. "It just appeared to
them as such." 4:157
The message of Easter is that
we do not idolize our Messiahs
to realize the full poten al of
Allah's Spirit within us. By cru
cifying all external idols we
find the True God within our
selves. Deny gods to find God.
"There is no God but Allah."
In crucifixion Jesus symbolically
ex nguishes his physical self to
rise spiritually to exalt himself
to God. He teaches us that to
lose life is to find it. Mt. 16:25
Mk. 8:35, Lk. 9:24, 17:33.
"Allah has said: O Jesus, I am
the One bringing about your
death and your exalta on to
Me." 3:55. In a like manner
when Muhammad's opponents
tried to break him, he is told:
Crucify our idols for a Better life

One God - ALLAH
Muhammad - the Last Prophet
One Imaam - Multiple roles
As the Mujad-did (Reformer)
To revive faith in the existence of a living God.
As the Promised Messiah
To spread Islam to the world as non-violent
As the Mahdi
To eliminate the
Muslim mind-set of the false doctrine of the
"Jihaad of Violence" by replacing it with the
"Jihaad of Patience".
As Jesus returned (Christ's 2nd coming)
To propagate Islam with Jihaad using
Allah's Word (Qur'an) - the Jesus Method.
Muslims and Christians expect the same Jesus to
re-appear to achieve diametrically opposite results
For some Muslims
- Jesus will uphold Islam and destroy Christianity
For many Christians
- Jesus will uphold Christianity and destroy Islam
Jesus' return brings Muslims and Christians into
"While you opt for the low life, the life
ahead is better and most durable."
The Qur'an 87:16, 17
