Captain of the West Indies
women's cricket team and one
of Atlantic's sports ambassa-
dors Merissa Aguilliera, who
hails from Moruga, was made
very proud on Friday, after
Moruga Girls RC copped the
Atlantic National Primary
Schools Cricket League title
at the Queen's Park Oval.
Emotions ran high as the
Moruga Girls celebrated their
triumph over southern neigh-
bours Rochard Douglas Pres-
byterian. Rochard Douglas who
had posted good scores
throughout the tournament,
just did not show up.
The nervousness associated
with playing the biggest game
of their lives showed as they
could muster only 100 for nine
wickets in their 20 overs.
The most consistent batter
for them all season Alyssa Ram-
nath also found the going tough
and topscored with just 10 runs.
Apart from her, everyone failed
and had it not been for an
unbelievable 67 extras, their
score could have been even
The Moruga bowlers despite
being a bit wayward were able
to strike at crucial times and
Rochard Douglas could forge
no meaningful partnerships.
Moruga RC with their fans
cheering them all the way, then
romped to victory at 103 for
one with nine overs to spare.
Jayriel Charles came good when
it mattered and plastered the
bowling to all parts of the
ground in scoring 44, while
Patrice McGilvry notched 25.
