around the concept of the compass. As a destination,
T&T would be the centre of your compass in terms
of investment opportunities."
This edition features all banks, insurance companies,
automotive companies like Toyota and Neal and
Massy, energy companies, among others.
Lewis spoke about the evolving local and global
economy since 2000 and how the publication has
"From a revenue standpoint, you still see oil and
gas revenue dominating. But what you are seeing in
T&T is a sophistication of business activity, whether
it is in the financial services sector or in other services,
new types of retail trade. In the restaurant business,
the supply chain has changed totally. People are now
storing and distributing goods in a more modern
way. In the supermarket sector, there are new ways
of checking out your goods, so we are seeing a more
sophisticated way of doing business in this country.
Of course, our publication reflects the increasingly
sophisticated way of doing business," he said.

While The Who s Who is focused on T&T s busi-
nesses and nationals looking to do business with
other businesses in the country, Business T&T looks
on foreign investors. The most recent edition came
out in April.
"Business T&T is in its seventh year of publication.
This is for strictly foreign investors and is very editorial
based. There are stories and articles about why T&T
is the best place for a foreign investor to invest and
the kinds of investments available."
Lewis said this publication is a joint venture with
a Barbados company Miller Publishing.
"We got together an editorial board of business
people, the Ministry of Trade, e-TecK, InvesTT,
among others, and came up with ideas on how best to portray T&T as an investment destination.
This is not about reporting news, but about
writing to tell a foreign investor looking for
investments that T&T has an environment
to offer in terms of culture, economy, support
services, schools for children of expats. This
publication is an amazing document and
Ins and Outs:
He said the third publication, the Ins and
Outs of T&T, also a joint venture with Miller
Publishing, focuses on promoting T&T as
a tourism destination.
This has been in print for the last ten
years. The annual circulation is 35,000
"This publication comes out in January.
The main market for the advertiser is the
tourism market; anything in tourism, from
tours to restaurants to cultural activities to
hotels. Of course, it focuses only on tourism
in T&T and nowhere else in the Caribbean.
There is a section for tourism in Trinidad
and a section for tourism in Tobago," Lewis
He said they strive for a quality publication
of international standards.
"The focus is on great editorial, amazing
pictures because any tourism magazine
needs fabulous photos. So it is high end,
world-class pictures that portrays T&T."
Lewis said T&T has the potential to help
diversify T&T s economy.
"I think we are still struggling deciding
what is our product or what product we
are willing to accept as our product. I always
say Tobago can be the Ariapita Avenue as
opposed to the Western Main Road in St

"Trinidadians love Tobago. We should
not be thinking of how we can make Tobago
the mecca of global tourism. Make a decision
and find a niche market," he said.
"We cannot have something that looks
like junk and people will come. I does not
work so. That is the difference between the
strip in St James where we all used to lime
at one time and now we have moved to Ari-
apita Avenue. The reason being when one
high quality place was opened in Ariapita,
another one was opened up. So we want to
showcase the existing tourism plan, infra-
structure and support services in the best
Lewis said the three publications continue
to do well in circulation and revenue.
Who s Who in T&T Business brings in
$1.5 million in annual advertising revenue.
Business T&T earns $450,000 in annual
Ins and Outs of T&T brings in $700,000
in advertising revenue yearly.
Lewis said e-versions of these publications
exist and they are developing their Web site
for the future as the trend is to convert from
hard copy to online versions.
"These publications are reference docu-
ments and not like a magazine or newspaper
that is thrown away after use. They all have
e-versions and the Web site. As time goes
along, more and more services will be offered
online. We will implement our e-strategy
by 2015," Lewis said.
