Ann-Marie Petti sprinkles corn grains for pigeons at Woodford Square, Port-of-Spain on Friday. The
Morvant resident, who can be spotted promptly at noon on weekdays, has been feeding the birds for the
past two years. She explained that this was her way of giving back to the environment.

PROMPTLY AT NOON
- So imagine my consternation on
Thursday evening when at 5.40

Using the usual evasion tactics
to try to make my way to Diego
Martin proved futile, as traffic was
throughout Woodbrook, on the
Foreshore, along Mucurapo Road,
through St James, up the ramp
heading into Cocorite.
Finally, the reason became clear!
A small section of road in the
vicinity of the West Shore Hospital
had been patched and remained
impassable due to the placement
of orange cones around the area.
As soon as you passed that
obstruction, it was free sailing.
Will somebody have a heart for
the motoring public?
Iwould like to ask a public
question: Why are there so
many rusting ships along the
coast of Trinidad?
I took a trip to San Fernando
using the water taxi (which, by
the way, is one of the best ini-
tiatives of this Government to
ease up traffic on the highway,
especially to go into and out of

Seeing those ships---which
are polluting the waters slowly
on a daily basis---is an eyesore.
Why can t the Ministry of
the Environment, whose
offices view this every day, try
to clean up the water?
I see so many plastic bottles
in the water.
Where is the beverage con-
tainer bill the ministry was
supposed to implement, to
reduce the levels of littering?
Is it that the environment is
not on the agenda anymore? It
seems so, and it has been so
for a long time.
Why don t we utilise the
young, brilliant minds of UWI
graduates to help reduce global
warming and our carbon foot-
print? As a leading Caribbean
country, we have the resources
to make a change.
REMOVE THOSE RUSTING SHIPS
Since the San Fernando Teach-
ing Hospital was opened, I only
had opportunity to view it from
the outside. However, my uncle
was admitted two weeks to the
facility, so I had reason to see the
inside for myself.
Let me tell you, what I saw was
very, very impressive. First of all,
there is a multi-level carpark,
which should not be so shock-
ing---but if one knows the stress-
ful experience it was to find
parking at the old San Fernando
hospital, one would understand
why this is such a welcome fea-
ture. Then there are the rooms.
Four patients to a room, with
state-of-the-art beds and facili-
ties. The rooms are clean and the
staff are very helpful. This could
compare with some of the best
public health facilities in the
world. I must say, this was a very
well executed project by the Gov-
ernment, and they should be
commended for it.

My friend, who was in the pas-
