Leader of the Tobago Organisation of the People
(TOP) Ashworth Jack says he is not fazed by the
formation of a new political party, Tobago For-
wards, by former members of TOP.
Speaking with the T&T Guardian on Monday,
Jack said the start of the new party over the weekend
was democracy at work but described the members
behind the breakaway faction as lacking in discipline,
adding that they made
no meaningful contri-
bution to the TOP.
"I think the TOP is
finally free of some of
those people and we
can start organising the
party and start moving

"I know it would be
a lot of work to get it together, I laugh that the
party can sustain, when you see the level of indis-
cipline that has been exhibited over the last year-
and-a-half, then you know maybe the party is
better without them," he added.
Responding to claims by the former members
that they had to walk away from TOP because Jack
felt the party belonged to him, Jack said the group,
which is apparently led by Minister for Tobago
Development and Tobago West MP Dr Delmon
Baker, wanted to do its own thing.
"I have never exhibited anything to state that

would be restored.

I am quite sure some people would come home
who did not like the level of indiscipline that was
taking place. The ILP in Tobago was formed
because of those people. They left the party and
joined the ILP because of that," he said.
Jack said he would continue to help rebuild the
TOP and once this process was completed an
election would be held to elect a new leadership.
